I honestly always get great reception in Hilton with US Cellular.I think the people blaming cell phones have clearly never tried to get a signal in that concrete reception deathtrap

That's two people now that have praised Phog Allen in this thread. We were there in January. I am admittedly biased, but I did NOT find the noise factor to compare to Hilton when it's hopping. The noise was artificially induced; ie: the music provided most of the noise, and then they posted a "decibel meter" on the big board during timeouts while the mascot and a couple of cheerleaders would exhort the students to make more noise to make the decibel meter hit a certain volume. It was not spontaneous crowd noise, and I much prefer crowd noise to ear-splitting music.
Okay - commence raining on my parade by calling me an old fuddy-duddy...![]()
Not really. I just wasn't all that impressed. Maybe it was low crowd energy because we were leading most of the way...they came alive in the last 10 minutes. The Phog blows Hilton away. We're one of the best, but they're on another level there in terms of noise, video production, and basically the whole experience.
You're just fighting to fight now.
====================================I've heard they're going to upgrade the lighting system again this summer to add some stuff that can do on court design type stuff in the future
I agree that there are some games like that and certainly not every game is max electric. The team this year is relatively boring to what we have had the last few years; not as many threes, not as many dunks or alley oops. Not as many plays that feed the frenzy so if you're basing AFH off of this year then you don't have a very good baseline. No biggie. That's two people now that have praised Phog Allen in this thread. I was there for this years game and thought it was pretty electric. Crowd definitely helped frustrate our guys when KU went on that 14-0 run or whatever it was in the 2nd half. It’s definitely a fun place to catch a game. I wish more places in the Big 12 weren’t morgues or id go to other venues.I agree that there are some games like that and certainly not every game is max electric. But we do know that this year's team desperately needs our help to keep their shot at #15 alive so I will be driving through the snowstorm tomorrow to get to Lawrence to do my part and if KU finds themselves flailing and lethargic then I will be screaming from the rafters to wake them the bleep up and get going.
Those games where it is electric in AFH are unrivaled. The last visit by Kentucky was the most amazing regular season atmosphere I have ever encountered. I am pretty sure I did permanent damage to my hearing that night.
Jerse being ill informed? Color me shocked!
I'm not ill-informed on anything, explain to me then why all the experts and college basketball are always talking about Hilton as such a tough place to play? I've been watching alot of other games over the years where they show a spot for our game and then the announcers start talking about Hilton. I think you are selling it a little short if you don't think we are known for being a tough place to play.
All I know is Prohm has 2 more conference losses in 3.5 years than the previous coach in 5 years, and thats counting the complete dumpster fire Mcdermott left which shouldnt even count.
Why are you going to give one a guy a pass, but not the other?
and it has a lot to do with the lighting...
Supposedly they changed the light fixtures idk like few years ago? And that affects upper deck lighting..well it sucks...it is like sitting in a morgue.
I can’t believe others in the AD and b-ball program haven’t noticed and asked for a change.
Hilton has changed and it isn’t good. The once magical arena isn’t all that intimidating to opponents when 2/3 of the place is in the dark.
Oh, I don't know, maybe because one guy went 8-1 for 4 straight years and created one of the best home court advantages in the country. I'd have to go back and look but if remember correctly the only teams we lost to were Missouri when they were a 2 seed, Kansas a couple times, and Baylor who was a 3 seed that year.
Meanwhile the other one loses frequently to teams like Milwaukee and teams that haven't won a road game against ranked foes since 1998.

To be fair, google only knows stuff that happened in the past 15 years or so.Fred didn't create the home court advantage.
