I don't have a problem with the headline. Its a serious offense, and was fairly recent. He's lucky he was only 17 when it happened, or it could have ruined his life for good. I'm still glad we're taking him though and trust Campbell's judgement to give him a 2nd chance.
Agree. This is a really serious lapse, one which almost cost this guy a chance to play football and one which could have landed him in jail for a LONG time. If Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, (insert any other school) had signed him, you guys would have been outraged and saying that you were glad we had a coach like Matt Campbell who would never do this.

Every screw up? Yup, it's happened to me too. People make poor decisions every day. The more important thing is how you learn and respond from what you did. Once is a screw up, twice is a trend. I trust Coach has a close watch on his team and will respond accordingly if something additional were to happen.

This kid might look back some day and thank Matt Campbell for giving him a second chance to live his dream, or he could F up and join Jacob Park at Philly State Juco. What happens next is up to the young man.

Randy, I don't think you mean to do this on purpose but seriously, Go cover Iowa. Nothing like putting Armed Robbery at the top of the title for ISU and Campbell.

Not sure if it's still the case but in the old print-only journalism days, the person writing the article did not write the headline.

That said, Randy is a doosh.

I'll say this every time Randy gets brought up. I was blocked 2 or so years ago for tweeting at him ONCE...essentially asking how he was able to convince the Register to let him write soft core Cyclone erotica. Apparently one tweet set him over the edge. Poor Randy.

Generally speaking, the journalist doesn't decide on headline, the editor or in this case, the sports editor. Not defending Randy, just saying he probably has 1% input as far as headline.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with Peterson's piece. Randy can be a little hit or miss but I think some underestimate how effective he is as a foil to Iowa State coaches. He's not afraid to look like the bad guy and let a coach's classiness shine through by giving him a fair chance to respond. If you look around the country, there's plenty of other sports journalism that is either coach fanboy or gotcha journalism to make a coach look dumb which I think is far worse.

Actually you don't have to looking any further than the Register itself and their Hawk coverage partner the Press-Citizen for knob slobbering fanboy journalism.

I'm not a fan of Randy or the Rag, but it's hard to argue with the story. I mean, it's all true.

If it were Iowa with a similar situation we'd all be having a hay day with it.

I'm also for second chances, and am okay with Campbell bringing him on board, with a short leash.

Its a fair article. If the kid screws up when he's here, then that will be a bad look for the coaching staff. If he takes advantage of this opportunity and is a success story, then it will be great for all parties involved.

And if you're worried about what Iowa fans say, take a moment to appreciate the irony.
