That would depend on just how long they were out of all team activities. Somehow, I suspect that wasn’t “until WVU”, that just happened to be the first time they were on the sidelines.

Six weeks of no team activities would be incredibly harsh.
Agree 6 weeks is seems harsh for the offense. From what I understand, 5 players broke curfew type rules during fall camp. CMC made each of them call home and ask to be picked up at the local airport. They were sent home with about a week left of camp and told not to come back until classes started. You can do the math, 1 player learned his lesson the first time, the other 4 not so much. Any additional issues could be the last.

Scates is rated higher—by Rivsls. He’s also the highest rated who has actually signed.

Must be a late bloomer. I’m not seeing any 6’6” wideouts in Ohio’s top 50 (Rivals). Guess I’ll go check 247.

Hope someone else hasn’t recommitted.

Edit: This guy?

That’s a new target. Not a WR, but a flex type of TE.

As you can see he has blown up recently.

You still refer to Rivals over 247?
I refer to Rivals first. Whatever their multitudinous shortcomimgs, I find their talent rankings incrementally more accurate than 247’s.

Aside from Breece Hall, of course.

I’m pretty sure that a good portion of the difference is that 247 incorporates ESPN’s often execrable rankings into their Composite—and I don’t usually want to take the extra time to look for 247’s own.

Allow me to steer this thread off the rails some more, but I agree that 247 is way better than rivals, in terms of websites. 247 is smooth and clean website, whereas rivals seems like some kind of instagram/facebook/craigslist lovechild.

For the love of god. They were not guns. They were BB guns. Agreed it's a mistake but let's not get wayyyy out over our skis.

I guess they might have shot their eyes out.

Here is the article about the situation. Scroll down and look at the handgun that they had. Yes it is a BB gun, but would you be able to tell the difference when it is dark?

Isn't Scates the highest rated recruit under Matt Campbell? Not that it means he should play if he isn't ready but I'd like to see the potential.

Agree, I would hope that we see Scates in late game action (assuming the game is at hand) in at least 3 or 4 games this year.

Literally doesn't matter. Someone said gun, it wasn't a gun. Intentionally making it sound far more daunting than it was.

Since you're being technical...what exactly was it? A BB ____, or an airsoft ____? I'll let you fill in the blanks.

I understand what you're implying...but when you are walking around with any sort of weapon, or anything that can easily be mistaken as a firearm...you are asking for trouble. Especially in this society with the issues we've had with guns and schools.

Lol, in the dark lots of things could be misconstrued as threatening if that’s what you’re expecting to see. Not knowing how your actions fit in the context of your new environment is common but isnt nefarious.

They weren’t suspended for the degree of likeness of their toy to an actual weapon. It was a pattern of behavior that doesn’t fit what we need as a program.

I never said they got suspended because of the "toys" they were carrying. I said they deserved the suspension they received because how stupid they were and how they were potentially putting their lives in danger.

Scates won't be. He is a receiver. He has speed and it's not like they quit working out. Pretty sure the ones with talent will be able to step in pretty quick. Although we will probably play them all 4 games and then redshirt them. That would be my guess.

They aren't playing much. I would be surprised if they play at all. A freshman WR isn't taking snaps from the guys out there and he's probably not even to Epps level yet. I don't know why people think WR is somewhere guys just step on campus and have success but it's not true. There's a lot to the position that they never learn in high school because they can either run by everyone or jump over them.

I'm not arguing it was a smart decision. But that poster, who INTENTIONALLY said 'guns' months after the fact when we know EXACTLY what they were and what transpired, is a douchenozzle who is purely instigating.

Since not in class yet, guessing CMC wanted them out of Ames, hoping they would realize the seriousness of their decisions and how it could impact their opportunity to play football. They had to call and explain to their parents what happened and why they were being sent home. This incident was directly breaking teams rules, the gun thing was more extremely poor judgement(which most of us experienced at that age).
