Not exactly sure.
It is funny because its pretty much the exact same thing.

Checked out how funny it is. JP took over a program that was 100 area in the directors cup. A budget of 20-30 MM. The previous post said we are 40th now. Our budget is over 3X of when he started.

Lickliter should last team was 4-14 in the big ten. Franny was 4-14 in the big ten this year.

Looks like one has improved their area, one is still stuck in Park.

The three years prior to Pollard Iowa State averaged 97th on the Director's Cup. The first year under Pollard ISU was exactly 97th. The second year ISU was 73rd. In the 10 years since then ISU's worst placing has been 64th which is still a 51% improvement over the hand he was dealt. For Fran to have a 51% improvement each year to Lick's average of .396 win percentage he would have to win 60% of his games. He has failed to do that four times in (half of) his eight years. The first were his first two years - just like Pollard's - no big deal. The last were these last two years. He is trending in the wrong direction and it is ridiculous to blame years 7 and 8 on the previous coach especially when you have had marginal success in some of the intervening years.

So no, it isn't the same thing. Not even close.

LOL at anybody using the Directors Cup.

JP fired one of the most successful coaches in ISU history for Chizik and then Rhoads. He is 1/3 on football hires.

He let his 2 best coaching hires walk. He is 2/3 on basketball hires, although that could change if Prohm cant dig himself out of the cellar. He allowed the wresting program to tank to epic levels. Jury is still out on Dresser so I would consider him 0/1 on wrestling hires.

He has had to make a ton of HC hires for the major programs in the AD and has hit on less than 50% of them.

So let’s compare that to Barta. He has hired 2 coaches for the major programs. Lick and Franny. Lick was a mess and Fran has treaded water so Barta is 0/2for a 0 percent.

And he's overseen the greatest revenue growth of the athletic department in ISU history. Which, I am sure you are aware is the actual job duty of the athletic director.

Which, of course, happens to be what you cherish so much in Barta.

And has kept the football program and wrestling programs operating at a standard higher than when he took the job. Also, Iowa has a baseball program and Heller was an oustanding hire.

You said major programs. How many millions does Iowa get off baseball. Way to move the goal posts. So you give credit for not firing a coach that is doing well? Yeah, that’s all Bartas.

How bad JP is at hiring coaches.

Ya. K. Were not the fan base that gets super pissed off every time your AD gives one of your coaches an extension.

Well yeah, look at the huge mistake made by JP and the crater he dug for the ISU football program by firing McCarney.

And actually wrestling has fell a little. They won three batts when he showed up and now haven’t for 8 years or so. One of Iowa’s longest droughts in wrestling since about the 60s.

You obviously have no clue when you bring up McCarney. Donors had dried up, recruiting was drying up, change had to be made. JP just grabbed the wrong coach.

It's not just major sports that matter. If it was you wouldn't have put wrestling in your list here. He has had great hires in gymnastics, volleyball, men's golf and women's golf. He also appears to have good hires in men's and women's track and cross country as well as women's soccer. All of those programs have experienced improvement.

Iowa wrestling hadnt won a national title since 2000 when Barta took over.

They won 3 straight from 2008-2010 and are a top 3 program in the nation.

An AD will never be fired for hiring poor gymnastics or golf coaches. They usually are shown the door if they whiff on over half of the HC hires for the major sports in the AD.

Iowa fans tell me titles is all they accept, the wrestling fans that is. What is the longest drought since 1970for iowa to win a wrestling title? And when did it happen? Hate to tell you, you are in it right now.
