I agree, but Jenniings and Breitenbach are the only two to post wins (one each at 165 in dual competition). What I don't understand is why is St. John even in the mix, especially when Jennings beat him soundly in an open tournament. With a big win like last weekend, why wouldn't you give Jennings a chance to show some consistency and build on that momentum. I don't get it, but then again, I'm not the coach, lol.

I agree. Not quite sure why he didn't get the start against SDSU

For that one I assumed prior to the trip the plan was for them to split the two matches and the coaches stuck with that plan.

I'm with everybody else that would be extremely disappointed if he isn't the guy this weekend though. Wrestle off or no. Unless he's done something off the mat to be held out he's had the only notable win at the weight and I'd think he'd get the chance to wrestle some more to find out if that one match was a fluke or not.

I'm like most everyone else on here that I'm surprised Jennings isn't given the nod. In competition, he's looked like the better wrestler. Also, 165 could potentially have 6 allocations for nationals. Not that any of our guys would score at nationals, but getting the qualifier would be nice!

I will wait to be too worried about it until we see who actually takes the mat tomorrow night.

Hopefully Fresno State is already in town because otherwise they probably aren't making it in.

I don't get why you'd have a wrestle off, but still wouldn't be surprised if we see Jennings this weekend. At 74 I would say Bush has had slightly better results than Swalla, so I'm thinking that spot is settled.

I love seeing unheralded Iowa boys like St.John, Jennings, Swalla, and Bush get a shot to wrestle for ISU and win some matches. We're gonna need some of those blue-collar type of guys mixed in with blue chippers to get this thing turned around.

I heard the knee locked up and they scoped it to release it. No tears and he should be back in a couple of weeks. Breitenbach had the same thing happen and the same procedure done at one point and he was back on the mat very quickly.

So, no Parker this weekend??

Definitely need Jennings in postseason, St John is almost a guarantee 0-2 at the Big 12s and Jennings soundly beat the guy who will be seeded no worse than 4 or 5.

Is UNI's 165 pounder Dan Kelly? If so, former Iowa State wrestler and is he from Osage? Isn't that where Brady Jennings is from? If so, are they former classmates?

Kelly is from Cedar Falls I think.

I am with everyone else on 165 tho. Let Jennings wrestle. St John has had awhile to flip the switch. He started duals when at Iowa. Give Jennings more live competition.

Is there a way to watch either/both of the duals without paying $7 for 24 hours or $11 for a month of cyclones.tv?

You're right. I knew there was Kelly families from Cedar Falls also. I guess not sure if there was any Kelly families from Osage

Mediacom for Friday night if you're in Iowa and have them for cable. Otherwise its Cyclones.TV for Fresno and Flowrestling for UNI.

I’ll be at the dual in CF with my son. Is there anything I need to know about the West gym? I hear it’s tightly packed in the there and pretty warm.

I have been to 1 meet in West gym. It will be packed and loud and hot! I would go a little early to make sure you can get a seat. Not sure how they do admission. Have to think it is a sellout.

I just looked - there are still tickets available for now. You can either buy them now and print them off for free or pay $3 for them to hold the tickets for you at Will Call.

I would think with back to back duals (Friday & Saturday) instead of Friday & Sunday, that we may use a couple different wrestlers at some weights, like 165 & 174

Regarding Jennings & St. John...I'll go ahead and say it... It's a tough spot for Jennings because it's very hard to be objective when there is a coaches relative (kid or brother) in the mix. You see it all of the time when a coach gives his kid multiple opportunities to overcome mistakes and yet another athlete competing for the same spot is pulled after making the same mistake one time. I hope St. John makes me eat some crow on this but like many others have stated Jennings has passed the eye test (for me anyway) and deserves a shot. I'm sure John Smith, Tom Ryan and Terry Brands aren't trying very hard to recruit better kids at specific weights whom might take the spots of their boys.

With all that being said I'm not the coaches and it's there job to get results so I wish them the best. Maybe I'm way off base here. GO CYCLONES!
