Lots of offers but it doesn't seem easy to get them to Ames for visits. I also don't hear his name mentioned by the recruits much. That used to be common for TJ recruits. I realize that Prohm probably is helping a lot, but it would make it easier if we had an "ace" assistant recruiter too.

Patience, TJ the previous "ace" has been gone less than 2 months. The rest of the staff hasn't even been in Ames for a year (Prohm just completed his first year last week). The staff needs a little time to build relationships with players most of their targets have had other scholls recruiting them for 2-3 years when this staff has jumped in and started selling ISU. To expect top 100 players to immediately bond assistant and use an official visit to a scholl for someone they just met especially with an coach transitioning to his first major high job is a lot to ask.

I think they have produced quite well considering the circumstances and I expect the high major recruits will be making the trip to Ames during the summer and fall. Next summer will be a better judge of their recruiting ability as opposed to right now. Let's not forget they have gotten a lot of high level of transfers, JC players, and top 130 players to keep the program at the Tourney level. The roster is far from bare.

It would be amazing if they could somehow land Sexton. I am hoping that some of the blue bloods get other PGs first so ISU has a better shot. They have a lot to sell for the 2017 class because they have so many spots and don't have any proven guys so there is the chance to come in right away and play a lot.

It is not like these guys are new to college basketball. I hope they were building relationships at their prior stops.

By next summer it may be too late for Prohm if this enormous class isn't up to par as it will be half the roster.

True, but their weren't targeting the 4 star talent people are pining for rather low major prospects and developing those relationships. It is totally different pool of prospects available when your selling ISU/B12 (w/o being familiar with ISU) vs Murray State for Prohm and Small. TJ was an important hold over last year for that very reason. They are now getting accustomed to their new shiny recruiting platform and options along with a sweet 16 appearance, the 100 players will take notice.

Good point on not hearing Small mentioned by recruits as much. Realize it takes time but like someone mentioned, this year and next will tell us a lot. Btw, wouldn't Prohm need to fill Berry's former position yet? Any mentions?

And sorry about a thread 'off topic' question, but what happened at St. John's that Slice left already?

Man, I wish I got paid millions of dollars and got 2 years on the job training before their were any expectations.

That's sarcasm, but I am going to hold these guys to maintaining a top 25 program.

I kind of think Berry's position was kind of a unique one for last year. I think he was brought on to take over for TJ after one year. I doubt that Prohm has an assistant to the head coach position every year.

Way up there
And the fact that they have 4 guys in the NBA, not to mention that they beat us out there a few years back. There is no denying that UNLV had talented player but a crappy coach.

What can a coach do when he only has 1 year with the talent? I wouldn't say the players we get are better as frosh but naturally get better with age/coaching, UNLV's coaches rarely get the chance to have 4/5* kids more than one year. Its not really a fair comparison when they are just a bus stop on the way to the NBA.

My argument for your question is that Prohm and/or Fred would have taken most of those UNLV teams to the Sweet 16 or deeper.

Regardless, we are getting results beyond our recruiting rankings compared to a lot of programs and that's a good thing.

Well I'd hope the whole fan base would be disappointed as well. Do you not care about winning?

The tone of your posts comes off like a spoiled kid who pouts when things don't his way. To use a sports analogy- you sound like the kid who threatens to take his ball and go home when a call goes against him.

Nope I'm an Iowa State fan I'm more than used to following a team where things don't go my way. Doesn't mean I can't have higher than "coaches are doing the best they can" expectations.

There is no such thing as spoiled Iowa State fan

I came here all excited to see three new pages of posts today hoping to hear something about a recruit or two but it's just a bunch of banter and complaining about nothing, like Seinfeld.

Encouraging. With TJ out of the picture, wasn't sure if we still had a chance. We're in on some quality guys for 2017. We'll see how the staff closes.

This quote is promising...

Maybe the school that has been recruiting Lewis the longest is Iowa State, and the Cyclones continue to make a good impression on him.
“My relationship with the coaches is very strong,” said Lewis. “I like the campus and the people. It is just off the charts, and they feel like I am a part of the family already.”
