My point is that we should be able to get better players than a program like UNLV. How do you possibly take that as "we should get better players, but suck underachieve with them"? Even with Hoiberg, we were trying to get good high school players. We just couldn't get that many so we went the JUCO and transfer route. The transfer market has been watered down a lot in the last couple years because pretty much every school wants them now. It has become a lot harder to get the top transfers.

No one has even said we need to get more high school players, just that its frustrating to see inferior programs land more top 100 players than us year after year.

We are debating why we seem to struggle getting more top high school players, not if we should try to get more high school players.

Isn't it apparent that we do? This is what I'm not understanding. Or are you just being a star chaser?

No, they get better talent, but we've had far better coaching since 2009. UNLV has 4 players in the NBA. We had one (BDJ RIP).

The B12 is full of really great coaches, and below average talent (for P5 schools). The school/conference make up in the NBA backs that up.

The amount of talent in the NBA from the coasts compared to the landlocked states backs this up too.

ACC has by far the most players in the NBA but as of last year the Big 12 had more players drafted in the last 10 years than the Big 10 and the Big East

Pretty solid year like you said considering what they had to work with. Since when did I say they sucked at recruiting this year?

If they didn't suck at recruiting this year and next year's recruiting is way too premature to say either way I'm curious on what we're complaining about here. I do agree HS recruiting could have been better under Fred but NBA rumors really hurt that

For god's sake! The only person that is complaining is Gunnerclone. I simply stated that it continues to surprise me that ISU can't get better HS recruits based off their success the last 5 years when lesser programs do, and that one of the hardest things is just getting the guys to visit. That is what I said. And that I think Fred was on the verge of being able to start landing some really top end HS talent before he left. If he had committed to being at ISU I think there is a good chance we would have had a 5 star commit by now. I also stated that my hope is that Prohm can have success this year again and that will translate into higher ranked HS recruits taking notice.

Gunnerclone took these comments and turned them into I hate ISU basketball and I hate transfers and JUCOS and that I want ISU to sign top HS talent like UNLV and suck at basketball on the court.

I think getting two top 150 players considering the situation was really impressive this year. I'm not surprised ISU can't recruit better for next year because next year's recruiting really hasn't happened and I wasn't surprised Fred didn't recruit better with his transfer strategy and the NBA rumors.

I think what scares some people is that we knew TJ could recruit fairly well. Now we have no idea if this staff can or not. Time will tell.

I agree with that but I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised by our HS recruiting. Last year was really good considering the situation, Hoiberg's situation is easy to figure out why and it's too early to tell for next year

A lot of it too is having a really good recruiter. If you look at the sucky schools that get good recruits they have great recruiters. I am curious to see how Berry does in replacing TJ for recruiting the midwest

It is because there are still worse situations that that around college basketball. Much worse and they still get some really good players. Of course, you don't know what is going on behind the scenes in some of those places.

They get better high school players than us. They have had several first round draft picks in the last few years so its hard to argue their individual talent. I don't care about stars, I care about guys that we offer, that our coaches WANT, that end up at schools like UNLV.

Way up there
Royce White, Korie Lucious, Chris Allen, Georges Niang, Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, Bryce Dejean-Jones, Deonte Burton, that's 8 4 star guys ISU has gotten the last 6/7 years. When you consider that every one of these guys was/will be a 4th or 5th year player, its no surprise we've had more success than UNLV and lots programs that recruit better on paper.

True that we're used to TJ's success in recruiting, but hoping Berry can hold his own. Actually I'm more curious about Small. While lots of Southern offers out, lots to prove yet as if a good recruiter.

If you think ISU has gotten better HS talent that UNLV you are delusional.

Ya **** me for using results on the court and individual honors as the measuring stick. You're saying UNLV got better HS talent based on the star ratings. I'm saying that we actually got the better CBB talent as evidenced by Sweet 16's, conference tourney championships, AA honors, etc.

Lots of offers but it doesn't seem easy to get them to Ames for visits. I also don't hear his name mentioned by the recruits much. That used to be common for TJ recruits. I realize that Prohm probably is helping a lot, but it would make it easier if we had an "ace" assistant recruiter too.

And the fact that they have 4 guys in the NBA, not to mention that they beat us out there a few years back. There is no denying that UNLV had talented player but a crappy coach.

Them being in the same vicinity of one of the top Prep School Bball teams in the country helps with landing some top guys as well.
