Definitely a fan of the Nathan signing. That's low-risk signing with a potentially huge reward. I'd still like to see them go get at least one more bullpen arm, preferably one that will be more likely to pay off (and maybe Edwards will progress to a point where he is that guy this year). But this is a savvy move.

Cubs signed Joe Nathan today. Placed him on 60 day DL. It'll be interesting to see how he comes back.

Random observation for the day: the Cubs have a lot of players with two first names:

Joe Nathan
Kris Bryant
Addison Russel
Jon Lester
David Ross
Clayton Richard
Jason Heyword
Adam Warren
Spencer Patton

Aside from the elite bullpen guys, there's so much variation in relievers from year to year that you might as well just throw **** at the wall and see what sticks. They turned a failed starter (Wood) and two scrap heap pick ups (Cahill, Rodney) into go to relievers down the stretch last year.

To be fair, a lot of last name have turned into first names over the years.

Joe has certainly decided that Baez is an everyday player at this point. This lineup is also far superior defensively to when Soler plays.

Agreed. But at this point, Soler is the worst hitter on the club...pitchers included.

Which is absolutely maddening because you see the natural tools, they just aren't being used.

Still to early to give up on him, but I think he'd be the piece they'd be most willing to trade.
