I hear "Family" coming out of Coach Campbell's mouth almost everytime he speaks, so does that mean he's discriminating?

I don't think Fennelly or Campbell are racists. Do I think Fennelly is an *** that absolutely curses out players and acts like a minor league Bob Knight? Yes.

I take it you didn't read the part about rhetoric not being black and white. Or the part about "sometimes." Oh well.

Interesting question. Someone should ask him, "Coach Campbell, you talk a lot about family. What would you do if one of your players came out as gay?" You'd get your answer then.

A couple players (Ezell and Medders (Fennelly)) have posted on Facebook in support of him. Not surprising. My friend said it's the silence of others not showing support that people should pay attention to.

everyone has an agenda. Your friend included.

because saying something positive is so much easier than saying something negative and critical that could damage relationships, one player has already tweeted negatively.

We get it. You have an axe to grind. Are you gonna keep reminding us?

It's really not my question though. You have one person saying this coach uses code words (maybe, sometimes) but another coach at the same school using the same words but they aren't code (or are they).

"Moody's lawsuit also alleges that ISU athletic dept. 'only wanted athletes to pursue majors that could be manipulated by athletics staff.'"

Nothing new,,,,,,,This is true of most / all D1 athletic programs. This is known as, "Clustering" - when a majority of the athletes are congregated into one curriculum. An interesting study, published in USA Today a few years ago, showed even schools like Princeton had 75% of the FB and MBB athletes 'clustered' into one curriculum...They also listed Uof Iowa as having a majority of the FB athletes in a degree program titled, 'General Studies' ?#?

Reading the complaint, it seems evident that Fennelly had a Nikki Moody problem, there's nothing in there to indicate it's a racial problem.

The crux of the case seems to be: when there were white seniors, they had these perks and were favorites of the coaching staff. when there were 3 black seniors they changed the rules.

My question is: where the rules really different for everyone, or only Moody? The best person to answer that is Brynn Williamson. I doubt she'll say anything, but if she did I would be very interested.

Homosexuality in WBB is very prevalent. Is it in Football? Are there football player parents who are worried that their son might be scoped out in the locker room?

Because that is a really REAL issue when a coach sits in a WBB recruit's home with her parents.

However, I don't think Fennelly uses to the same level that Pingeton does, for example, who is very public about her role in the FCC and her thoughts on homosexuality.

I REALLY don't think Bill singled her out because of her race but reading that, damn, his approach to demeaning his players is pathetic. Some of the things the lawsuit claims he said are pretty bad.

I was hearing worse than that when I was 10 years old. When you start paying to play a sport it comes with the territories. We had Brazilian soccer coaches that seemed like the only word they knew in the English language rhymed with maggots.

The thing is, one of them has faced (now and in the past) accusations of discriminatory behavior ...

It's really not my question though. You have one person saying this coach uses code words (maybe, sometimes) but another coach at the same school using the same words but they aren't code (or are they).

I suspect that Fennelly used to take a stronger stance but doesn't anymore. That's just my impression though, with no real evidence.

there's plenty to indicate there was a racial problem, it's just if you choose to believe her or not.

As the earlier poster said, talk of "family" and "family values" can be a dog whistle for homophobia. Of that there is zero doubt. (And here I'm talking broader society, not just ISU.)

Of course, that absolutely does not mean that talk of family or family values suggests homophobia - lots of people use it to describe an inclusive family atmosphere too. For better or worse, it's up to the listener to determine the underlying intent. So you'd better be damn sure you'd clear about what you're communicating so you don't get accused of saying something you didn't.
