I am thrilled with this class as well, but don't put too high of expectations on this class to impact W&L this year other than the Jucos on campus now. Remember 90%+ of the guys will be redshirting and we will start to see them on field in fall 17 & 18. I do agree though that with the Juco adds and our returning guys that if this staff is half as good at coaching and developing players that a bowl game is very realistic next year.

Oh, of course not. Like you said, most of these guys won't be playing for at least a year or two as most simply aren't ready physically for Big 12 football. We're just stoked that CMC has put together the best recruiting class ISU has seen in more than a decade - and he did it in 2 months. There is an energy about this program that we haven't seen in years. When was the last time we had this much excitement about ISU football in February?

Recruiting is now out of the way. It's now time to see what CMC and Co. can do with the returning talent and the recruits that will be ready to play in 2016. We were so close in several games in 2015, so he has some players to work with. All I know is this year is going to be fun.

Yep. Last year's team underachieved. There's enough returning talent to make a run at a bowl game next season, but first we'll have to see if Campbell and his staff are anywhere near as good at the Xs and Os as they are at recruiting. For now it's just nice to be excited about ISU in February for a change. Great first couple months on the job!

Way up there
Gotta admit, after seeing what CMC has put together it makes me question what the hell CPR's recruiting philosophy even was. Whatever perceived limitations were out there for recruiting to ISU/Ames, CMC basically said to hell with that and went out and killed it.

I don't think this staff is leaps and bounds ahead of CPR and CO from a recruiting standpoint but the willingness to use social media, has put Cyclone football recruiting front and center, even during a bball season with huge expectations. So I think its too early to tell if the kids this staff brought in are an upgrade, we can definitely say that this staff is much better at marketing and seems to have a better grasp on what players value when it comes to recruiting.

I'm more than impressed with what this staff has done in such a short amount of time. Especially recruiting to a culture of losing the last few years. That cannot be an easy task to recruit any player to a program in that condition, let alone any 3 or 4 star athletes.

The energy and effort this staff has displayed, and the results have been outstanding. I can't wait to see what happens with the recruiting by this bunch if they can manage to somehow win a few games or pull a couple of upsets next year.

Agree 100%....and now they get a whole year to work on future recruits and have a batch of guys here that, on visits and such, can affirm why THEY chose to come here.

I also think this bump in talent level will do great work in, hopefully, sharpening the men already on the team.

I'd say the new staff should be very happy, we out preformed three other conference schools who had a whole year to recruit.

I love the size of the DBs. 4 of the 7 are 6' +. The smallest is 5'10.

I'm satisfies being in the herd. 2-3 spots isn't going to be difference in 9-3 and 6-6. Getting classes that are competitive in the conference then puts it on the coaches to perform.

It looks like youth and energy has done a lot for our program in a very short time.

I'm just thinking about what the possibilities are if CMC gets this team to a bowl game in the next year or so. Having results to sell on top of potential will be huge.

Not saying it is going to happen but just think of we could win 7 games this next year. ..that could be huge in his next year's recruiting class which will be his most important

I think having Mangino and Wally as the top two assistants hurt CPR on the recruiting trail. Sure they did some, but at ISU you need everybody on the road busting it on the recruiting trail. I don't think there is any question this staff is much better at recruiting. In two months they have bested every CPR class in terms of ranking, and that includes having the fortune of highly ranked locals in Lazard and Campos. It will be seen if this translates to wins, but considering the effort on the trail, there should be no doubt that these guys will put I the time to leave no stone unturned in terms of game planning and player development. People on here like to try to crack the Bill Snyder code. When I hear interviews from guys that were around him when he built KSU it seems straightforward: outwork every other program on the recruiting trail, in the film room, weight room and demand nothing less than that from everybody in your program. Not saying CMC is going to turn us into a national power, but this effort so far is a good sign.

Agree....what I would say is the old staff was more "old school" and this group is VERY new school...and they are working their tails off. I know some is philosophy, but someone said when Rhoads was let go the "hard hat" mentality is one that may not connect with youth...and it seems Campbell is also about hard work, but has it framed in the form of "excellence/accountability/buying in" and I think that can resonate differently with young people (but still the same goal of working hard, etc).

I know folks at KSU and the stories they tell of the 90s and Snyder's staff is exactly what you shared...they were WORKING all hours and perfecting the little things as they developed the talent they could get.
