No one is saying he should have consulted him, but as a fan the guy is entitled to his opinion. God forbid he's a little skeptical right now. Any Cyclone football fan with half a brain would be skeptical right now. Name another AD who's going to call out a fan on Twitter simply for sharing his opinion... I'll wait.

I wasn't aware this thread was in the In-State Rivals forum. Go back to herpeyenation or whatever cesspool you crawled out of

It's so irritating that we sit here and hear JP preach about how loyal and classy a guy like Rhoads is, when there are a boat load of fans on this board and not that have been loyal to Iowa State University long before Rhoads or JP were ever employed by ISU. And then he comes out on twitter and acts like a 12 year old when those same people who support and help pay his salary question his judgement here and there.

I understand blocking people who annoy you, but there's no need to get in twitter spats over things like this as the freaking AD of the University. Ridiculous.

Twitter War! Twitter War! Break out the iphones.

Do you? I'm not the one guaranteeing he's never visited this board. I simply think it's highly likely that he has based upon the way he makes himself look incredibly insecure on social media.

Yes...

I have agreed this is not a good look for JP though. But the other guy in this story isn't some innocent saint. Both dudes made a mistake. JP's is the one we care about given his role at ISU. He should do better in the future. And to make this crystal clear, I would be shocked if he reads CF message board threads. He isn't Bruce Van De Velde.

My god you are such a ******.

He should be above this type of crap. He's the face of a major university athletic program. At some point he has to realize that this immaturity isn't getting him anywhere. .

Isnt getting him anywhere? He could pretty much get any AD job in the country. Id say it got him pretty far. I swear, someday he will be gone and you guys will sit around and wonder wtf happened to our athletics.

Well considering I don't pay attention to or care about what other AD's tweet or what other AD's personalities are you'll probably be waiting a while. I care that our current AD defends my school.

Seriously? Look at the crap he responds to on Twitter. No clue what makes you think he's never browsed CyFan before. The guy clearly cares about what people are saying. He should be above it, but it's pretty evident he's not.

Agree. It's pretty obvious the athletic department has a crew on here that routinely praises JP for everything he does and attacks anybody that posts even a hint of criticism. Don't think that's by accident and is likely part of a pr agenda. It's really sad that after making what looks like a great hire that has everybody excited, JP once again chooses to go the low road as he's done before. I was hoping JP was growing in the job and was a bigger man than that by now. His mouth really is a problem for him.

Wait, CF conspiracy theory? I admit, I work for the AD. You are real dumb.

Nor should any fan be threatening one's job or financial support because he wasn't blown away about a hire. Works both ways, shouldn't it?

Lol...no. That doesn't work both ways. It is Pollards job to run athletics and ultimately put butts in seats. A fan is choosing to spend their discretionary income on entertainment. They are under no obligation to support a program, and can stop supporting it for whatever reason they want.

I agree Jamie should be above this, but I would be irritated too if someone included me on a tweet that said if my latest endeavor didnt work out I should be fired. Then send out another tweet hours later praising it.

Again its very simple dont include Jamie in the tweet and he wouldnt respond.

what evidence do you have of this? That's a strange comment to make on something you couldn't possibly know anything about.

Jamie took it too far and got personal. He had three choices, do nothing, reply but not take it too far, or take it too far. Can't do that.

I remember when Jamie hired Freddy. A LOT of people hated it but pretty much everyone was bought in after Fred's initial press conference. There is nothing wrong with that imo. People need to see what Jamie saw in the coach before they can buy in.

I think both parties come off looking bad in this little twitter exchange, but in the end it's not a big deal.

"I just hired a coach because the one I originally hired failed! Boom! Suck it doubters!"

If you are a public official, why would you have your notifications on for mentions and replies? Seems strange to me.

Its the position he holds at the university. He is held in higher regard than calling out a random fan on social media.

It's also what makes him different from most athletic directors and school officials. He responds to fans emails etc. about nothing with an actual answer and not some "we will look into it bs."

Good luck finding that other places. You can't have it both ways. Personally I prefer an AD who responds to fans. Every once in a while that may mean you get called out like this guy did.

Don't tweet at him if you don't want a response.

I don't really want to debate the whole Twitter thing, but it could be possible that there have been other exchanges from that fan that stirred all that up. None of us know. Having heard and been around JP for several years, he can say some things at the wrong time that make you go, "really"? After all, he is human and not perfect. But, overall, I'm very impressed with the job he took on and what he's done here, quite frankly. Administration is almost a no-win job. Just think of the thousands of Hawk fans who crucified Barta for not getting rid of Ferentz, threatened financial support, etc.. They are sure singing his praises now, aren't they.
