I can't express how happy I am to have an O-Line, run based coach at the helm. The way to level the playing field in this conference is through line play and ball control. If we don't give up gashing runs and let opposing QB's stand in the pocket for 6 seconds, we will have a much better time on defense... same principle with offense. If Warren has lanes to run through and Lanning has time to make a read on the defense, we will win games. It all starts there.

Like the large Toledo press box

i would of preferred a normal enclosed endzone with a big press box with suites and club /drinking area

our south end zone then wouldn't be half empty all game

Sounds shockingly similar to another coach in this state.

The system Woody described Campbell running sounds to be exactly what I was hoping for. Then he mentioned how Campbell has a focus for both the lines and I think I'm sold.

I'm guessing if we had won more games (or were being competitive during the games) more fans would have stayed in their seats. I probably would have been at the bar drinking too. Winning cures almost all.

A couple of ways to be competitive in the Big XII is to ....recruit the same caliber of athletes that Oklahoma does or Recruit Big Linemen from the Midwest and South and play Smash Mouth Football.......

I'm just glad Pollard and Learn identified their guy early and got him. Time will tell if he's a good hire. I like the emphasis on line play and that he has experience as the head coach. The only thing that gives me pause is that he's never had to rebuild a program. At Toledo he inherited a pretty good team. Building ISU into a consistent winning program is a tall order, and it would have been nice to get someone who's pulled off a full rebuild at another place. But we'll see what happens. For now I'm just relieved that Campbell can get to Ames and hit the ground running. A drawn out search would have added an additional degree of difficulty to a job that's tough enough as is.

I'm working on some other stuff for you guys right now with the hire. Gonna get a couple hours of sleep. Plan to wake up early and write that column.

Up early, eh? :pwink: Kidding...thanks for the great coverage on a (thankfully) quick coaching search from the whole team.

With an infant in the house you'd think he's been up for at least an hour already. Make with the free content, CW!!! Get the lead out! :jimlad:

We could be 10-0 and the SEZ would be sparse. People always hang out in bars at football stadiums.

If he can get us a 12-0 season, then that's not a bad thing. Hell, even winning 10 games for the first time ever will make him a God at ISU.

I really like the hire.
He just needs to beat FCS teams, MAC teams, and Kansas consistently to be considered an upgrade.

Decent analysis as always from Woody. I still can't believe some people were wanting to bring a "gimmic" offense like the triple option. Sure, making yourself one dimensional seems like the brilliant move. Back to the Criner or was it Walden era?

Option 1 won't happen.
Option 2 is what needs to happen.

And if we run a run first, spread offense, I wish we would do what Auburn does.
They huddle close to the LOS, the QB send the WR's to their spots, once they get to their positions he breaks the huddle and they quickly line up and snap the ball. It gives the defense a lot less time to read the offense.
