There is a lot of room for hope with the way the players are developing and how the team is improving as the year goes on. The main problem is that there has been hope every year, but the results just aren't matching up. That can only go on so long.
I agree with both assessments. As long as I am seeing improvement I just can't pull the trigger on CPR. I like the guy and think he is the right fit. Player problems and hiring mistakes on his staff has hampered the progress but we are moving forward.

I can. There seems to be some improvement, but still some major holes (as tre said).
Also, he blew 3.5 years before that improvement happened. If Rhoads really had a solid plan for improvement, we would have seen it long ago.

This shouldn't even be a debate. All we're doing is losing. That's enough to be fired.

I remember ISU winning two games at the end of 2013, hope was sold in the offseason, how did 2014 go?

This. Do I see improvement, yes. Have I got my hopes up countless times with this program only to be upset, yes. At some point a change needs to be made. At some point you need to realize that doing the same thing over and over again, and getting the same results, is insanity.

Sounds like the same argument that Hawks had last winter after the Bowl Loss. Fire Kirk Ferentz. Now they are actually talking about extending his contract again.

We do have an improved team this year though, have you not been watching? We also play 5 top 15 teams.

We do. However, I can point to three loses that should not of been loses, and that's on the staff. When you lead Iowa at half, receive the 2nd half kickoff, and are tied with 2+ minutes left, ALL AT HOME, you need to find a way to win the game. Same goes with OSU, again on your home field. Average to good programs and coaching staffs at least win 1 of those games, if not both. I wont even go into the Toledo debacle...

Ferentz has shown he can take a team from the dumps to a power three different times. What has CPR done?

Not at all. They talked about pushing out a successful coaching in a down run that is still better than anything Rhoads has done. We're talking about pushing out someone with a pathetic coaching record.

Good work with your standard Iowa deflection. Now include something about "but, Kansas" and maybe a nice Nick Saban reference.

Horrible horrible comparison. You have said some rediculous stuff on this site, this may be tops.

I refuse to let you pee on my parade. Sick of hearing all of you that cannot look on the bright side of our program. Too many here look at the glass as half-empty, not half-full.
Yes, I agree I have seen improvements. But morale victories are for losers!!!!

Before Lanning and Mangino changes, I was only wanting Rhoads back if we went to a bowl game and won.

With the changes and with the improvement I've seen, I would support him back if we win the last 2. If not, I'm still ready for a change.

Yep we are losing. We have lost to 7 teams that have a combined record of 60 wins and 9 losses.

This year was tough because I do think the pieces were there to have a bowl team. Seems like CPR and ISU history are almost intertwined, both have taken a lot of shots to the nut sack and keep on going.

Understandable the fan base is not ok with "improvement" if it doesn't transfer to wins which is something we as ISU fans have become comfortable with.

I also take into account the fact that CPR should get a significant amount of credit for our increase in attendance, he's inspired a fan base at ISU that no previous coach has been able to do. I believe that CPR is happy with the new contingent of the fan base is not satisfied with the program, I believe no one wants ISU to succeed more than him.

Pollard is pretty business savvy, he knows CPR helped build the atmosphere, but also knows he can wreck it. Depending on the last 2 games performance Pollard will have to project what will happen next year on ticket sales.

We owe the players on this team a better coach.

I think that we can actually go to a bowl game in spite of him next year, but why should we settle for a coach that has consistently put players in poor positions/schemes and blundered games away? I've seen the improvement, but am totally over CPR as our coach.

DuangoCy, are you sure that is what the players want? Players and coaches can have a connection and that may be gone if coaches are changed. I sure wouldn't want to loose any of the players we have for next season if we changed coaches.

Nope, I feel same way. Keep it together and give him 1 more year.
Puke :nah::nah:I agree that we got better but I don't want to waste a better team next year on a horrible coach. CPR had his chances to improve but he fails time and time again. I'm sorry if people still want to believe he can turn it around but he hasn't shown me a real culture change.

if he gets another year I really think we will pay for it in two years. We will fall into the hole like Kansas and be forced to hire a WR coach or running back coach for our next HC. CPR is a nice guy and I wanted him to win but a bowl game is pipe dream for next season with him. I'm sick of people saying they want a bowl game or fire him at the beginning of the season and now are sitting happy with 3-4 wins. I'm not saying we should be winning the big 12 but bowls games are fun, they seem like a fairy tale now.

Agree. If we lose the next 2 games it will be hard to sell hope.

Pollard must know that he has to go with a Head Coach. I would favor a Doc Holliday type of hire. Dino Babers looks okay too.

Am I the only one that has seen improvement since Lanning became the starting quarterback and Mangino was let go? I see improvement on both sides of the ball. We have the first 1,000 yard rusher since ARob. We have a mobile quarterback that rushed for over 100 yards last game. We held the 8th ranked team in the nation to 34 points, and oh did I forget, we led the game except for the last 5 minutes. All I see are people bad mouthing a coaching staff that is trying to get things going in a positive direction. I see people bad mouthing our players and saying they are not good enough to get wins. This is Iowa State, we are not Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, or even this year (I hate to say it) Iowa. We are a work in progress and I am satisfied that things are moving in the right direction. If we pick up a few good JUCO players to fill a few holes for next year, we have a good core of returning players that can win.

We're better but the rest of the league (absent Kansas and KSU) are improving faster. Best 3 win team in the league and nobody can take that away from us!
