Not what im saying at all. If you're down 2-1 going into Game 4, do you want to do what you can to win, or do you want to have a bullpen day? In the very least, I think you pitch Lester Game 4, and Hendricks Game 5. (both on 3 days rest).

Of course this is all situational. If you're up 2-1 going into game 4, you pitch Hamel or Haren (Id honestly lean towards Haren at this point) in game 4, and Lester Game 5.

Cahill and Wood have been two of the better Cubs pitchers for the last month, starting Hammels and going to the bullpen at the first sign of trouble isn't throwing a game at all, they very well may be a better option than Lester on short rest.

My piece...

0 chance in hell we win the series if any combination of the "H" named pitchers start 3 of the 5 games.

well yes most likely, but unless Lester gets hurt that isn't even possible because he's starting 2 games in this series without even having to go on short rest.

I'm not sure Lester starts Game 4 either, that's only three days rest, Game 1 Friday, Game 4 Tuesday. I think it's going to be Lester-Hendricks-Arrieta-Hammels/bullpen-Lester most likely, if it goes five games.

This is why you got Lester. He's definitely going on 3 days rest.

That's some dumb old-school baseball logic. Lester on three days rest probably isn't your best option. From the linked article, post season starters on three days rest from 2000-13 had an ERA of 4.80, a WHIP of 1.42, a team record of 20-34 and only 23 quality starts out of 54. Wood and Cahill have pitched extremely well down the stretch, I don't think Maddon will be afraid to use them.

Why do some of you even assume that Haren makes the playoff roster? They already have several guys capable of going long relief like Wood, Cahill, and Richard. I can see them either going with an extra position player or situational reliever than having Haren on the roster because from here on out it will be a 4 man rotation. Either Haren or Hendricks will be left off the roster against the Cards, I don't see why they would carry both of them

Its Haren vs Hammel, not Haren vs Hendricks.

Hendricks was on the roster last night, he wouldn't have been on the roster in a 1 game playoff to not be on the roster in the LDS.

I think Hendricks is a lock based off being on the roster last night. Plus, Hendricks numbers over his past 5 starts are not too bad. IMO, the 4th spot is between Haren and Hamel, but regardless, I think they all make the roster.

I think it's Haren or Hammels, it's redundant having them both and I'd rather have another bench option for Maddon to use. You take them both and you need to lose two bench players from the wild card roster, not sure which two that would be especially if they're set on keeping Berry.

Personally, Id go with Hendricks on 3 days rest, if we are down 1-2, over Hammel. Hendricks overall numbers are better, IMO. I also think, if the Cubs do have a 4th starter, that it will be Haren over Hammel.
