If the #1 criteria for a coach is him never leaving, there's a lot of crappy coaches waiting to be hired. Let's go for the best and let the chips fall.

CPR can just coach both sports, he'll stay here as long as we let him.

It seems like there is more to the whole story that we'll probably ever know. I get the interest in the Bulls and Twolves given his connections. But the more we learn that he's apparently talked with every team that's had a vacancy, the more it seems like he checked out after the tournament this year. Did he always have a 5 year plan in mind or was there something else, be it his health or disagreements in the AD?

I'm really disappointed how this went down, especially with the high likelihood that it's hurt recruiting a transfer for next season and work on the 2016-17 roster, though a new coach will have plenty of opportunity with that class. Fingers crossed the Hornacek long shot comes true I guess.

Just because a hot chick dumps you, do you stop dating other hot chicks and resort to the fattest ugliest girl in the country because she'll never leave you?

I imagine with an infant around the house and all this Fred stuff going on, when he gets a free moment Chris just sits there with a Busch Light in hand and a thousand yard stare.

I like to picture CW in a tuxedo T-shirt, cause it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party.

So if Fred interviewed with multiple NBA teams throughout the spring, does that sort of mean he maybe didn't give a rat's *** about how last season played out?

Life goes on, but that's a pretty short grieving period to just up and put out the idea of moving your family to Orlando.

He wasn't planning on taking the Orlando job I bet, probably just a bargaining tactic with the bulls.

Silver lining... Fred didn't interview for the Florida Gators job (as far as we know). At least he was planning to dump us only for an NBA team. Any NBA team, apparently.

Yeah, probably But still. Orlando.

I don't even think a fake interview is worth going there.

While we were all wishing Fred well, he was busy telling a recruit he couldn't commit, interviewing with multiple NBA teams, and passing off recruiting duties to Otzelberger. That stings a little bit.

I think we've all known Fred had interest in the NBA from day one.

That's alright. Came with the territory, an "NBA guy," and one with ambitions like his.

We were lucky to have him as long as we were and to get out of the AWFUL circumstances at the end of the McD years, and it was fun while it lasted. Who knows, maybe we'll have him back someday.

The timing does seem odd, though. He's got his best roster coming back. The NBA is always going to want him. Why now? And it doesn't seem just to be the Bulls' job came open this offseason--he looked to be more aggressively shopping himself to any taker where, before, he seemed to be quite choosy.

I can see, for instance, why he wanted Golden State last year. He could be Steve Kerr right now with that roster.

The Bulls are... curious. It's an awfully-run organization with a declining, has-been roster that's a poor match for Hoiball. Their cap and draft situation sucks, too:

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/a-eulogy-for-if-only-the-bulls-as-we-know-them-are-probably-done/

It almost looks like Fred went from loving coaching at ISU, with only the cream of the crop being able to lure him away, to rather wanting to get out sometime in the past year.

What happened?

Just some theories and speculation...

-expectations got too high
-striking while the iron is hot, though I would think it would only be hotter after next year
-sick of recruiting/losing out on Vaughn and Diallo/the swamp that comes with it
-his health issues focused him on "it's now or never" for this one
-some unknown issue with Leath or Pollard
-dislikes the single elimination lottery that CBB uses to determine champions and greatness
-maybe just feels ISU doesn't have enough institutionally to overcome KU and friends ever... he doesn't want to keep trying to win at an unfair game... the blue bloods will always be the blue bloods
-other, behind-the-scenes locker room issues... hate to bring up BDJ on this one...
-wanted to work with professionals again, not amateurs
-$$$ still matters, even if it not the focus of this

Say what you will, but all these interviews with these marginal NBA franchises (and not a primo one like the Dubs job last year) make me feel like wanted out a ton more this year than he might have considered in years past.

I think we've all known Fred had interest in the NBA from day one.

I know we've all heard the NBA interest from Day 1, but he sure has said a lot more about his affinity for Ames and ISU over the years than he's ever talked about the NBA. So the sudden move coupled with the fact that he apparently just wants out of the college game is the shocking part, especially with a top 10 roster returning. We'll probably never know the true story, though I'd hope there are some tough questions asked of him at some point.
