The things that I keep coming back to in my mind:

1. Either Fred, or probably someone on his behalf, said that the losses at Iowa State just kill him because of his emotional investment in this place. This would certainly be easier somewhere else.

2. His health. He probably doesn't take anything for granted after what he's been through, and may feel it's now or never to take a shot.

3. With #2 in mind, if he wants to take that shot soon, now is the best time in the foreseeable future, as the team is stacked with senior talent.

Yep. If I was in his position, my logic would be, yes I want to go to the NBA sooner rather than later, and if I don't go this year and leaving after next year will deplete the program, then I either go now or wait 3-4 years for roster to balance out.

You have to remember that Fred lived thru a similar situation with Orr leaving early instead of finishing out coaching Fred and the other seniors that year.

Hoiberg, Meyer, Michalik, and Beechum were all going into their senior season when Orr decided to step away and leave a solid team for the new coach. Now today it's Niang, Naz, McKay and Monte that will be left for a new coach.

I still think Orr was pushed, but I agree with your points.

Same here.

Yeah, not much here either...I mean, no malice or anything, but I don't follow the NBA, so like when he was playing, someone says something about what he was doing, my response would be along the lines of "hmm...that's cool" and right back to whatever I was doing before.

Just watched the video of it on ESPN. Made me want to puke , especially when I listened to Gar Forman say in their press conference of the Thibs firing how they weren't going to rush it and they hadn't even made a list yet. And whether it took 1 day, 2 wks, or 2 months they'd find the right fit. Now that certainly was a bunch of "Bull", wasn't it. Like we didn't know they already had their man. You think they could have spared their own fan base with that wasted message.... a list...hahaha. On a more serious note, I'm glad this won't drag out and the day I watch his press conference I'm going to be very very sad. But I appreciate everything Fred brought to Cyclone basketball.

Bulls truly put the bull in bs. Wondered why on earth Fred wanted to associate himself with these people. Having read through his quotes about his dream job at ISU the last few days, I guess he will fit right in.

I don't really care about the NBA at all, and don't watch hardly any games, but I will actually be hoping the Bulls are horrible next year.

As a person I know that is a horrible thing to do.... I should want nothing but the best for Fred, but I just can't bring myself to that point. If the Bulls fail and Fred gets canned, he will still be set for life financially, so it's not like we will all need to feel sorry for him. He will be just fine.

I just like it when there are consequences realized to one's decisions. For example, if a baseball player uses steroids, I don't want them to succeed and not understand what a poor decision they made. I want their body to break down and for them not to succeed so that they realize the negative consequences of their poor decision.

I know Fred's decision is different in that he isn't cheating or doing anything illegal, but I do believe it is a horrible career move on his part, and it wouldn't hurt me one bit if he quickly discovers that and has to learn from it.

You don't mess with karma. And Fred had the perfect job and life in Ames, and now he's going to mess with that karma because he thinks the grass is greener in the NBA for some odd reason? I think most guys that have jumped to the NBA will tell you it's not all that it's cracked up to be. It will not hurt me in the least if Fred does not find success there. In fact, I will be a bit happier if he doesn't, and he realizes just how good he really had it in Ames.

It most likely has nothing to do with JP or ISU. It has everything to do with Hoiberg wanting to be an NBA head coach. He's talked about that publicly, he structured his contract at ISU to make it clear to NBA teams he was not going to be costly to get, he has a rolodex full of NBA execs and coaches who have been telling him for years he is cut out for that job.

If he leaves ISU, I will feel bad for what might have been. But I am not going to try and lay blame for it anywhere other than where it belongs. If Hoiberg leaves, it will be because it is what he wants.

I think Fred is a better fit in Minnesota. The front office would be far friendlier to him. Garpax have never had a good relationship with a Coach. Whether it is Gar or Paxson, whoo knows, but they don't treat them very well.

I would think Flip and Fred could have a lot of fun with the Wolves.
