No slam dunk, dem ugly.

Those are sweet!
Now, take these two helmets, and combine them with cardinal, gold, and white jerseys, and cardinal, gold, and white pants, and bingo.... we are set forever. That would give you a LOT of possible uniform combos right there.
Someone with better math skills could tell us all exactly how many different combos there are with 2 helmets, 3 jerseys, and 3 pant colors.
You can be in the 5% against that logo.![]()
IMO, the updated 80's 'tornado' logo looks like it should be used for a drain cleaner. Further, it is from a (another) terrible era in ISU football. Blast away. . .
The funnel logo is AN ACTUAL CYCLONE. It's the best logo we've ever had once you cut off the cursive "Iowa State" and blow it up on the helmet. Resurrecting the Criner curse is such a dumb argument. We're cursed anyways. Throw in walking Cy with our current logo and that should be our identity. Cy doesn't need to be a Tazmanian devil.
If you want to make it a secondary logo to the "I State", then fine, but we can still put it on our helmets. It's so much cleaner and classy looking than just some letters on our helmet IMO.
Well I think the current logo looks fantastic when stenciled on a helmet like the mockup Kagavi did. So much so that I changed my avatar.
Michigan's official logo is the giant block "M," but they don't put it on their helmet. Florida State has a Seminole logo, but puts a spear on their lids. Alabama has the cursive "A" & an elephant mascot, but uses neither in favor of numbers. Notre Dame, Penn State, Colorado State- see where I'm going with this? We can have our cake and eat it too. Mix it up. Use the block I-State as our midfield logo & put the funnel on the helmet. Put the block logo on a pair of gloves. On special occasions reverse it. Wear chrome gold for prime time night games against Texas. Commemorate Clay Stapleton by donning walking Cy for a game. Etc.
Regarding the "stain" of the Criner-era Cyclone logo, I respect that it may trigger some negative opinions, hence the redesign by "amestoplease" that moves it another step forward.
Besides, you know what else happened during the time of that logo? Johnny Orr, Barry Stevens, Jeff Grayer, and the birth of Hilton Magic as well as ISU's first NCAA tournament appearance in 41 years. Perhaps we should not think of that '80s logo as just the Criner logo, but rather as the Johnny Orr/Hilton Magic logo too. Today ISU announces the introduction of a new secondary logo honoring our 120 year old Cyclones nickname as well as inspired by our tradition of Johnny Orr and the birth of Hilton Magic. Who says no to that?
To my recollection, the basketball team never used the "thong in a blender" logo, they used the cardinal with the basketball
Poked around eBay and quickly found this key fob with the 1983-84 basketball schedule on it and the logo on it. It was in February 1983 that Barry Stevens had the famous game-winning shot against Missouri that was the start of Hilton Magic, so I think it's accurate to claim this logo is from that era and should be thought of as such.
(I'm right there with you if we want to discuss a change to the current CY logo, but that's a whole another thread.)
