lol well Bryant loses value too if he moves to left. Castro is older, the most likely of the bunch to get traded, and he's not great defensively at shortstop. If someone moves, I would assume it would be him but that depends on how well Bryant plays defensively at 3b.

How does Bryant lose value by moving from the infield to the outfield? His defense is rough at third, and his offensive potential is right where you would expect a corner infielder/outfielder to be. And when we're talking about a guy who (assuming he pans out) the Cubs aren't going to be trading any time soon, I don't see why moving him would hurt his value.

because value is defined by replacement level for that position. Thirdbase has a much lower replacement level value than left field does.

These numbers aren't correct and just used for an example.

Lets say Bryant's value is 100. Left field replacement value is 80 and third base replacement value is 70.

If Bryant plays thirdbase his value above replacement is 30 but if they move him to left field his value is 20. So with the exact same offensive output, the team loses value by moving him to a position with a higher replacement level.

I'm sorry but anyone calling Javy a bust at the age of 21 is a ******* moron and shouldn't be allowed to post on anything pertaining to baseball ever again.

Those who say Baez isn't ready -

The organization has known Baez is a slow starter. They even said they expected him to have a slow start in 2014, which is the biggest reason why he didn't start in the MLB to begin the year.

They were right.

First year with the I-Cubs, Baez splits:

April: .172 BA, 58 AB, 3 HR, 22 K's. Struck out 38% of his at bats.
May: .250 BA, 108 AB, 4 HR, 41 K's. Struck out 38% of his at bats.
June: .275 BA, 102 AB, 4 HR, 34 K's. Struck out 33% of his at bats.
July: .300 BA, 110 AB, 10 HR, 29 K's. Struck out 26% of his at bats.

The guy just takes more time to adjust.

Looking at his stats and comparing them to his MLB stats, it kind of appears to me that he tries to focus more on power, and has to make the adjustment to contact, and then comes power. It's a difficult adjustment to make.

He likely wants to come off as a homeruns juggernaut. When he lets the ball come to him and doesn't worry about it, he's fine.

I'm predicting he will be a lot like Soriano stat wise. Slow starts at times, but remember, Soriano's stats weren't AWFUL. They were just bad for his price. Baez will have a week where he hits .500 and has 5 homeruns, followed by 2 weeks of hitting .150 and striking out 50% of the time.

I don't think anyone is saying Baez is a bust right now, but that he has the potential to flame out of the league quickly. Personally, I think it's too early to make a call either way, but I wouldn't argue with someone who doesn't think he has long term potential in the bigs.

3rd base is the weakest offensive position in baseball right now from a traditional power spot.

Bryant has exponentially more value as a 3rd baseman than as a left fielder. He's going to have to totally flame out at 3rd for them to consider moving him. This is the same reason they are giving Schwarber every opportunity to stick as a catcher.

I thought it was already a done deal that Bryant was moving to RF? I hadnt even heard of him playing LF. Baez at 2B and Castro/Russell at SS/3B with Bryant in RF would be perfectly fine with me.

Soler will be playing RF for the Cubs for hopefully a long, long time.

Soler is our future RF for sure. Alcanatara is hopefully our utility man and we find a real centerfielder in the next two offseasons.

They'll probably give him some reps in the outfield during the spring, but just for versatility reasons.

My ideal offseason:

Sign Jon Lester (6 years/145 million)
Sign Jason Hammel (3 years/24 million)
Sign Russell Martin (4 years/48 million)
Trade Billy McKinney and Arodys Vizcaino to the Nationals for Denard Span

Lineup:
Span
Castro
Rizzo
Bryant
Soler
Baez
Martin
Alcantara

Rotation:
Lester
Arrieta
Hammel
Hendricks
Wood/Turner/Doubrant (Whoever the hell wins that spot out of ST)

Soler was traded to the Cardinals, didn't you hear? Cards are sending Lou Brock and Bruce Sutter back to Chicago...what a blockbuster deal!
