How I Met Your Mother

I'm wondering what the age group is who liked the show. The young girlfriend loves the show. I'm celebrating the fact that I'll never have to see it again

It was pretty crappy how they dealt with the mother's death. Could have been more emotional, maybe the gang at her funeral. Instead they have Ted say one line about her being sick and then the kids mentioning she died while excited for him to bang Robin.

This finale was way to rushed. Needed less wedding crap this year, and then the finale spread out over multiple episodes.

They didn't need to kill her for a comedy show.

So the first 15 episodes this season walked through 3 days. And the final episode? 20 years.

Whoa, that was a horrible final episode??? Probably the worst finish of a long running show ever.

Yeah. Why the hell did they feel the need to do that? Spread it out a bit. Each character could've gotten a whole episode for their finale instead of 10 minutes....

I didn't mind it though but the insignificance of the mother and the rushed feeling were kind of weak.

They wasted about 8-10 episodes worth of show this season only to rush together an ending. It just feels incomplete.

Cop out ending .....you are suppose to take a tour of the ballparks before you retire....

I can't believe how awful that finale, and really that season, turned out to be.

As others have mentioned... The pacing was truly horrendous. They spent an entire season on one weekend only to pack 20 years into a single hour. "Rushed" doesn't even begin to describe how that episode felt.

And having the entire show build up about Ted and the mother... Only to introduce her to us in the last season... And then KILL HER OFF is unbelievable.

I thought the scene with Ted and Robin in last week's (or maybe two weeks ago's) episode where she says that she should be with him because he found the locket and he convinces her to stay with Barney was fantastic. It was such a great, melancholy way to put a bow on that relationship because so many people can relate to how that feels... when the timing just never works out, or when a person has to put their own self second to a friend or family member (like Ted to Barney). And it was great for the audience, because we knew that Ted would land this awesome girl that was perfect for him - the mother!

Nope - instead we end up with a girl that we're all rooting for with Ted who dies in a 15-second scene in a hospital bed.

And Barney and Robin, who we have also been led to root for now for years, were done in a split second.

And the Barney that we knew and loved flipped a switch and became a totally different person when random skank #8388348 got knocked up by him. We watched him slowly progress into a mature adult due to Robin's influence, which was really well-planned over this season... Aaaaand then that disappeared.

I could go on and on... I am probably just going to pretend that finale never happened when I return to this series in a few years. I'll act like Barney and Robin got married and lived happily, Marshall and Lily ended up staying in NYC with their friends, and Ted met the mother at the wedding... And the rest is left unstated, for the viewer to decide.

I didn't mind the final, until they hooked Robin and Ted up, and then it went down hill.

I actually liked the ending. The first half of this season and the past few seasons were hard to watch, but I think it ended well.

Wish they would have just ended when Ted said "well that's how i met your mother."

Running after dog woman (Robin) at the end was not needed.

They kind of ruined Barney for me with this episode.

These were my biggest complaints. They absolutely wasted the first half of this season when they could have done so much. I really enjoyed the finale, especially the flash forwards. But it definitely felt rushed.

I didn't mind that they killed the mother (although again, it was very rushed how they did it) because as the kids said, the entire story/series wasn't really about the mother...it was about the group and Robin in particular. That really surprised me and I didn't expect it which is why it looks like I'm in the minority and liked the finale.

I got the feeling that they took a very literal approach to their idea of the show, so Ted didn't talk about the mother so much to her own children.
The premise seems to be that he's a romantic guy who's been a widower for six years, is ready to have those feelings again, wants to ask Robin, but wants an OK from his kids.

We all want more with the mother, but that wasn't really the point of this whole thing.

Why did they drag out this series for the past two seasons and then cram so much into the finale? They should have introduced the mother at the beginning of this season and they could have gone deeper into all the "big moments"
This finale would have been fine if it wasn't for the fact that the last two seasons have been basically pointless.

Really? Barney was ruined for me as soon as he got in his first long term relationship with Robin. The following ones with the stripper then Robin again just made it worse.

This is pretty much how I see it. We all wanted to see more of the mother, but in the grand scheme of things, it didn't matter because that's not what the story was about. It was about Ted and Robin the whole time.
