I should've clarified. The coaches will never welcome him back. I'm sure the fans would love to have him.

I highly doubt the coaching staff would let their own hurt feelings get in the way of them doing their job extremely well.

Turn away the best HS prospect in years because feelings were bruised? Not happening.

Geez, talk about a grim picture. Don't blame Rice for looking. That sounds like a mess. Guess we can rule out him using it for a pay raise.

Also, to be fair, he didn't say Vaughn was going to UNLV. Just implied he wasn't coming to ISU; there were still 3 other schools on the list.

Doing a quick Twitter search I found a few tweets regarding this. Here's some quick notes:

- The Athletic Director that hired Dave Rice to UNLV is gone
- The "new" AD is a penny-pincher
- Rice thinks he is underpaid but UNLV thinks he is fairly paid
- He would get ~$300,000-500,000 raise at USF
- Rice is on a plane flying back to Las Vegas right now
- UNLV fans believe he is going to accept USF's offer
- Some UNLV fans want Rice to leave
- USF (American Athletic Conference) is a promotion from UNLV (Mountain West)

Saw the exact same thing. He will take the job. UNLV wont be able to match what USF is offering. If you are a coach that underachieves, best to go to a school for tons of money that has no basketball success to speak of.

I'm still shocked that UNLV doesn't pay more than $400,000, I would have guessed they were at least right around a mil.

Can't afford to pay a coach much - players are expensive.

How bad was USF this year?

Not sure what they finished, but I saw three of their games this year, one in person. Believe they lost to Okie State in Florida by about 30. They split with UCF and I think each of those teams only had about 4 wins in the AAC. I think they lost about their last 7-8 conference games in a row.

Some say this is just like McKay's situation. I don't think so. The information I had was that RV was a silent commit who told the coaches at his visit that it was a done deal. That explains why Coach Matt was so crestfallen when it didn't happen.

I agree that Fred would still do whatever he feels is best for the program regardless of feelings, but I don't think you can equate the two situations.

If Fred wants him still, I want him still. If Fred says that ship has sailed, I'm okay with that too. Fred is the one who will have to coach him.

I'd be excited, but not crushed if he went somewhere else even though ISU seemed to be the other favorite. Choosing UNLV said a lot about priorities and we're talking a one year player.
