Thomas should not have been starting over Morris

Without reading through the thread, I'll simply comment that it's always interesting to see who knows more about basketball than Fred Hoiberg.
Without reading this post, I'm going to simply comment that it is like some apologetic platitude being posted.

I cringed when Thomas double clutched on the wide open three in the first half. Then came the fast break.

He will get better...

Leave the guy alone for gripes sake, hoiberg will figure out what is best. Players will have bad games it's a part of the game. Thomas just needs to let it fly and not hesitate which he will do.

Getting such little consistency out of our 2-guard position forces us to play Monte more. This is fine but does negate some of the mismatch ability that Kane gives you when he's playing so much at the 2

This for sure...

Shut up and sit down! Close down CF and replace it with the Hoiball video and a sticky thread that simply reads "I Trust Fred" !!!

I don't know who should start, but suggesting that Naz or Morris should start over Thomas isn't crazy so quit acting like it is.

Some observations/near facts I think almost everyone would agree with:
1. We have started slow lots of games, especially recently.
2. Thomas has been the least productive starter over the past month or so.
3. There are two bench players who play big minutes who would make very acceptable starters if Coach chose to make a change.

Thomas brings a lot to the table that doesn't make its way into the stat sheet. That said, if he's not knocking down shots Morris and/or Long are better to have on the floor, which has been the pattern during conference play.

Also, for all the people who said we can't talk about Thomas not playing well because we were undefeated, can we talk about him not playing well in a loss? Is that allowed?

No one expects Thomas to score 15 ppg; that's not his role on this team. But starting with the N Iowa game, he's shot 26% FG over 9 games, with only 1 game over 33%. That's a problem however you look at it.

He'll round into form and I have to believe that's why he's still starting, but let's just hope its sooner rather than later. When he starts hitting his shots like he no doubt has the ability to do this team will just be that much better.

On the positive side, Thomas hasn't had a TO since BYU (though you cold argue he deserved one today). That's incredible for anyone, let alone a freshman.

Well 13 turnovers in the last 2 games is worrisome so maybe Morris should start....oh wait...

I dont think it matters

i dont think it matters who starts- as long as we get quality minutes out of Morris or Long. Hoiberg can play the hot hand.

With Kanes injury CFH hand might be forced even if Kane can play. He might be healthy enough to start, but maybe not healthy enough to be the primary ball handler and on ball defender against KU's PG.

The reality is we didn't lose this game because of Thomas' play, but our giving OU open 3's and offensive rebounds. My bigger concern going forward (other than Kane's injury), is that neither Edozie or Gibson have shown Fred they can earn meaningful Big 12 minutes. I think a big body is needed when Niang goes out.

Its called sarcasm. Although some on here probably think that way.

I hoped so, but even joking about that makes me cringe a little.

Plus I wasn't sure what you meant by Waldorf; you mean the primary school style?

Yeah, one loss and rip on the true freshman. I bet Fred knows way more than any of you trolls that want to sit behind your computer and play expert coach.

No doubt Fred knows more than all of us and knows his team, but the OP does have a good point regarding Thomas' slow release. He's in there to shoot, and he has a pretty slow release for a one-dimensional shooter.

I am confident it will come for him. Hopefully it comes this year and not next. We could use some good shooting. Still, the margins between Long and Thomas are pretty small. They're somewhat interchangeable so it's not a big deal who's starting. It's a bigger deal who's finishing.
