I'm not saying Jack Trice doesn't get quiet when ISU is playing horribly, because it does, but Iowa fans saying Kinnick's atmosphere is intimidating or anywhere close to what it used to be when they were winning is laughable. Just check out a photo of Carver-Blackeye or Browneye or whatever you guys call it from the past six years. Hawk fans have developed quite a reputation in the last 10 years: full and loud when good, empty and quiet like a morgue when not. If you look up bandwagon in the dictionary, I think this is exactly what it talks about.

Iowa hasn't averaged below 60,000 fans since the 70's.

Your point is? Who cares about actual numbers, thats not what were talking about. 60k doesn't mean anything if they're quiet or don't care enough to get into the game. That's all we're saying here. Kinnick isn't what it used to be. Period. End of story. Will it be that way again? Maybe, probably, who knows? For a few years now it hasn't been.

So let me get this straight. You're saying Iowa fans are becoming known as bandwagoners, because even though Kinnick averaged 68,000+ over the last 3 years (a span in which the team has gone 18-20), fans don't show enough excitement?

Are you new to sports? Hate to break it to ya, but I was in the stands during the Chizik years at ISU. Not only did attendance drop during his tenure, but JTS was hardly intimidating. So now that ISU is setting attendance records (along with improvement), and JTS is louder, are you willing to call ISU a bunch of bandwagoners as well?

I'm not denying that Kinnick has been dead the past few years. Why wouldn't it be? The fans have been there, but the team hasn't given them anything to cheer about. It'll be back in the near future, there's no question about that.

You should go back to read my original post which said ISU is no different, that JT can be quiet too if ISU is playing terribly, but it also said that Iowa fans saying that Kinnick is no different than it used to be is pretty laughable because a lot of us have been there in the past five years on multiple occasions. Again, this is all we're saying. No need for any butthurt, because it isn't a lie.

As for the rest of your post, I guess you could say yes, every fan of every team that ever won a few games is a bandwagoner.

I don't want to alarm anybody, but I think hell has frozen over. I'm agreeing with CyTwins.

Kinnick was dead last year. The reasons for it were obvious, and it isn't deniable. I also don't think you want to claim Kinnick as "indimidating" last year when the team lost to Central Michigan and Purdue at home.
I never claimed Kinnick was " indimitdating" -all I offered was that it wasn't a morgue as Cytwins claimed. Agreeably, it's been better before last year, for sure. Iowa State looked indimdated when we were up 28-0 at half a couple years ago at Kinnick. Just sayin...

Iowa fans have a go from zero to butthurt faster than a Bugatti Veyron can hit 60 (which is about 2.4 seconds).

The biggest difference in the last several years has been the students of each school. ISU students have been tremendous. They arrive early and stay till the end, and are engaged. Wasn't that way in the 90's.

I went to a couple Iowa games in the last three years (free tickets). The students show up but aren't opposed to leaving early and/or bored out of their minds.

ISU has lost too many home games @ Trice in recent years to be called 'intimidating'...but the atmosphere is a heckofa lot better these days than in years past

OK... I read your post wrong. I got a little butthurt when I read your comment about Iowa fans being bandwagoners. I took it as you saying Iowa is some sort of exception to the norm. Which brings me to...

Indubitably.

Iowa football is a lot like Iowa basketball. I yawn when I watch them play.
Cool story brah.

The **** just happened? I've agreed with CyTwins and Jamby in the same thread. Now all we need is mikem to chime in, and it just may be the apocalypse folks.

I look forward to the day both teams fear the other's stadium. Admittedly Kinnick was tougher back in the day, but ISU has improved their home atmosphere while the Hawks have fallen back from what it used to be. I don't think either is incredibly tough to play in right now but for the legitimacy of the rivalry outside the state it would be nice if both were places people feared going to. Will we ever get that at the same time? I don't know. IMO we haven't so far.

You said Kinnick held its own last year. I just don't see how you can justify saying that...

Both of Chizik's teams (including that 2008 abomination) had larger average crowds than Mac did in 2005/2006.
The team sucked and JTS probably wasn't intimidating, but the stands were much fuller to the tune of about 3K (in 07) and 1K (in 08).

It was down right rowdy for when OU came to town in 07 though.
