I've always thought that Woody should be getting more carries. Maybe he would have if he hadn't gotten hurt in the first game last year...that really took him out for most of the year. He's not as explosive as the other backs, but IMO those other guys go down too easily. Hoping more Pistol means more Woody runs inside.

Great to see him mentioned. I'm not sure if he'll be a breakout player, not because of lack of ability, but more so because our offense utilizes the depth that's there. At running back 5 other guys could legitimately be productive and at tight end at least 2. Would love to see him out there more. I hope that with young receivers and a young QB we will see more 2 tight end sets and 2 running back sets this year (not at the same time), and hopefully we'll see more Woody.

I'd be more curious as to who said that...looking at statistics from last year, the only games with much action were Kansas and ol' Virginny. I don't really see Weis saying it...I mean, there was no "pause for another bite of sammich" in the quote, and I don't really know holgorsen that well. My first thought when reading it was Mack, but only one carry against Texas, and nothing more than 13 yards a game before that, so it's not like they watched a lot of tape on him in preparation. I don't know, maybe it was Weis, average of 9.9 YPC in that game, but almost half of that was one carry for 43. Of course...could be that 'the gundy' is still having flashbacks....

Any other theories?

Gundy would be my best guess. Two years ago but Woody was dominate in that overtime. The second play where he spun in and out of tackles was one of the more impressive plays I saw that whole season.

It had to be Weiss. Woody ran all over them last year and Charlie is stupid enough to not realize Woody was injured for the majority of the year.

My guess would be Stoops.
He had a similar quote about how important Josh Lenz was to us last year.
Woody only had 1 carry.

I thought it might be Father Time. Woody had a great game against KSU two years ago, and nearly got us the win. On that final fourth down when the game was on the line, everyone in the stadium knew he was getting the ball.

Pachall and Amaro might not be known nationally but every B12 football fan knows exactly who they are. Probably can't say that about Jeff...yet.

To me, the fact that coaches are having him play some sets at TE leads me to believe that they want him on the field but don't see him getting the carries at RB. I would agree. Have him line up in a 2 rb set and motion him out as a lead blocker or dump of guy.

Iowa State RB Jeff Woody
Year: Senior
Measurables: 6-1, 242
2012: 40 carries for 193 yards and two touchdowns
Coach's take: “He didn't play for them much. We thought he was a load. Not sure why he didn't play more. I'm not sure if he's in the doghouse or injured. Not really sure there. Good running back, though.”

I would guess Gundy as well. He still has nightmares of 2011.
