How annoying is the band?

I must not have been paying attention during the season because I never heard the chants. I heard them during the tournament and liked them. I could see how they would get pretty old if they never changed. Still not 1/2 as annoying as boomer sooner or waving the wheat.

"The Ball is bigger than the hoop" has been around since at least the early 90's. IMO, the band needs new material.

If "the ball is bigger than the hoop" upsets you, you need to re-think your life.

Edit: I was neutral on the band, didn't really care. It was only after ****** bags started ragging on our own band that I took sides. Seriously, if it matters that much to you, ******* write an email to JP. Otherwise, shut the **** up about it.
100x a season? Yes, it does.

Rethinking my life now.... Yep, still hate it.

You didn't hear them during the season, because the student section did what they are supposed to do and were loud enough to drown them out.

They are the biggest rooting section for ISU at the tournaments and the chants are a long standing tradition. As a former bando I also find them a bit annoying, but I would never bash on the band themselves for doing them. They have added some chants since my day but they usually default to the old stand-bys on short notice.

I think the chants are annoying but so are the idiots that wear banana and gorilla costumes to every game. Get a life of you feel the needes to bash everything.

Oh and I wanted to get in on kfitzy's /thread madness. So you better listen to me.

The band has been doing this longer than a lot of you young immature kids have been alive. Don't like it? Don't go to the games and mute your TV. It isn't going anywhere, and it shouldn't.

Buncha cry babies.

It is better than some of the people wearing shirts not even affiliated to ISU.

So, I'm actually kind of neutral on the whole thing. The chants were never really my thing while I was in band, but I do think it's ridiculous that people get this bent out of shape about it.

That being said, am I the only person here who's parents told them to just ignore someone that annoys them? Do you all think it's some sort of coincidence that the band has gotten more aggressive with their chants every time one of these threads has gotten traction on the forums? And now you got them so fired up this year they actually got mainstream press for their antics. And if our fans and some reporters are noticing, it's pretty easy band geek logic to think that at least a couple opposing players might get distracted by it too. You won't be stopping them now and it's all because you were stupid enough to let them know it got under someone's skin.

Just because the Band has been doing something for a long time doesn't make a tradition a good tradition.

I enjoy the band, 90% of the time.

I love them. Involved, creates a great atmosphere.

I agree. I would rather have an involved, active band, then one that just sat on their hands.

Big deal if some of their chants are lame. They're making for a more interesting atmosphere and they generally cheer loud. Good for them.

I didn't like the band's chants during the season, but they seemed to be effective during the tournament. First, I thought sounded really funny on TV. Second, I thought they had impact during the first half (when Ohio State was shooting at the basket near them). Third, you have to like it when opponent fans like Notorious comment on how annoying the chants were. Fourth, in the absence of a student section, the band really filled a void during the tournament. They were also awesome and did a great job of working with the fan section (e.g. CYCLONE-POWER which also sounded great on TV).

There wouldn't be any complaining about the band if they didn't do chants during free throws.

/thread.

This. I absolutely love everything else the band does.

You ever go to a movie at the theater that was so god awful, you are sitting there thinking, man I hope nobody else here thinks I am actually enjoying this, even though you are all in there together? That's how I feel about the chants.

And it's not like I sit at home plotting my revenge on the band. I understand its childish to hate it. However, it's like somebody who doesn't use their turn signal. Minor inconvenience, mostly harmless, but really annoying if its the same person doing it all the time. And from some posts in this thread, it sounds like some of them get off on being that guy.
