Weather reports for over here (Iowa City area) are still saying more snow this afternoon/evening. Unless it's going to make a U turn or something's going to pop up behind the current line, I don't see it.

What's up weather dudes?

Patience..patience...

Most of the accumulating snow is going to be tonight/overnight. Would not agree with "this afternoon" if that is indeed what they're saying over there.

Des Moines will see what snow we get likely after 9pm.

The upper level low is going to drop south this afternoon...watch for things to develop in SW MN/Siouxland/Eastern Neb/Western Iowa around 6PM

I don't know, this storm looks like it is petering out in western Iowa.

No. It just hasn't arrived yet.

So far 1-3" in N IA, 1-4" in S MN. Pretty much going as expected up here. A bit of a break into the afternoon from major snow but it will return this evening. Picking up 4-7" tonight with an additional 1-3" into Tuesday.

Heaviest amounts will be seen in SE MN and NE IA in the 8-11" range. 4-9" in North central Iowa.

To be clear with this, most the of the accumulating snow will be NE 1/2 of the state, but you may see things start to appear on radar again to the west, intensifying as it moves east.

So Brett whats your thoughts on the drought for summer? I know we have seen more than normal snow totals this winter, have we broke the drought?

We haven't broken the drought. Things have improved some but the thing about "droughts" is that they are technically more on the scale of years than seasons.

I'm far from a soils expert, but we have seen some improvement and if we can continue with a wet spring obviously that will be good.

Even though we'll still be classified as in a drought if we can keep getting timely moisture it will still be possible to have good crops.

To put things in perspective....coming into the winter we were ~9" short on precip for 2012.

Just to come out a +9" after winter we would have needed ~108" of snow.

On top of normal. So, like 140".

And even then we would still probably be "in drought" since the ground is frozen and in reality it takes more than just purely eliminating the deficit to normal to actually recharge soil.

Where are you seeing the 2nd one.

The one that doesn't have our branding is a third party thing that is supposed to be in an automated email.

Its supposed to be overridden with our numbers, which it looks like it did for temps...but occasionally does weird things with the weather icons depending on the rain% that is there...

NBC owns The Weather Channel, why doesn't local NBC affiliates go off The Weather Channel where it says its going to be 48 on Friday on Weather.Com?

It's fixed now. You're lucky I have friends in high places.

Though its funny... Saturday rain chances might be on their way out of the forecast.

Probably because if you actually scored any of the Iowa TV weather staffs against the TWC over a statistically significant period of time, we would come out on top.

Same reason TWC would probably beat my forecast for Atlanta.

Depending on how much new snow we get, we could end up in the upper 40s Fri/Sat if the winds are strong enough counteract the melting snow.

That would be good, and i'll agree with vtxcyryd that i could also do with low wind and low 40s.

I'm just ready for spring, and to open up the windows and get outside.
