I'm trying to figure out why Belmond Klemme is letting out at noon. Snow won't even hit there until around 5 will it?

I'm wondering about Ankeny, for that matter. Is it really that unsafe to have a couple of inches of snow on the ground by the time school lets out?

I just made it to Ottumwa in Southeast Iowa, do you really think 10 or more inches is coming our way???

I would plan on at least 8, and yeah 10 doesn't seem to be a stretch.

I would bet you'll end up with more than Des Moines.

It appears it is starting to snow in Lamoni now.

I'm hoping the athletic directors of a couple of schools would get their stuff together and decide whether or not playoff basketball games are going to be played or not.

Also any idea what Friday morning commute will look like?

The first 6-8 hours it's supposed to snow heavily, and that will be the primary snow provider. Once that passes, the wind is supposed to die down and then very light snow will fall for the rest of the event.

So, based on what I've read, the visibility should be good by friday morning commute, but who knows what the roads will be like.

When the snow starts with this one, it's supposed to go from cloudy to heavy snow at the rate of 1-2" per hour very quickly.

The problem is, when it starts, there really shouldn't be much of a ramp up. Pretty close from nothing to 1" or 1.5" per hour in just a couple minutes.

Plows won't even remotely be able to keep up for the first wave of heavy snow. Probably not worth it to roll the dice on the timing and end up sending a bunch of 15-17 year-olds out on the road in that.

Belmond is probably far enough north they could have gotten away with a full day, but the risk if it backfired is also much higher there due to a higher rural student %.

Full school day after lunch, so they just say **** it, let's go home. Also get to store and get the 5 day supply of milk and bread before everybody else.

The city of Wichita just had a press conference in which they explained that they don't plow residential streets because "it would create snow piles at the end of driveways and around parked cars"...So?

Allrighty then......remind me of this tomorrow when I'm b****ing about the plow cimng thru right after I do the driveway....guess that's better'n Wichita's plan.

Any video of this event? I think the populations of IA, MN, WI, MI, and locales familiar with the term 'lake effect snow' would immensely enjoy such folly.
