Bored at work and got to thinking about if anybody or how many people on our roster could end up in the NBA. Its exciting to think about having all these cyclones in the NBA and what it can do for recruiting. Just wanted to see what everyone thoughts were?

I was thinking

  1. Lucious - Possible if turnover problems got fixed and he worked his butt off
  2. Babb - I wish but not enough offense. (Unless they want a lock down defender)
  3. Clyburn - Possible (has the size just needs to hit the weight room hard)
  4. Ejim - Honestly think he has the best chance. (Reminds me of kenneth Faried type player for the NBA)
  5. Niang - I think in a few years he'll be heading to the NBA if he continues to improve
  6. Mcgee - Honestly with the type of game he plays could really flourish in the NBA (Probably over seas)

No one seems like a sure NBA thing, but definitely a lot of guys that will be playing for money in the next few years. I would love it if some made the NBA, but no one looks like a lock.

My glasses have a heavy cardinal tint, but even I don't think that we have 6 NBA guys on our roster. Maybe overseas, or some D-League-ers.

If I had to guess anyone it would be Clyburn. He has the height and skill. He just needs to refine it and add some weight.

Lucious, Clyburn, and McGee in my opinion are the only ones with a legit shot. And none of them are sure things at all. Niang, Ejim, and Babb's games, while effective at the collegiate level, do not translate well at all to the Association.

But as a 23yo 5th year senior, that's not likely to happen at this point...

Right now, I'd say Georges is the only one with a chance of getting drafted, and that's just based on potential. Maybe Melvin, if he improves as much next year as he did this year, but there really isn't a place for him in the NBA at maybe 6'6".

If I had to bet my life I'd wager that none of our current roster plays in the NBA. Clyburn would be my lone wildcard but I don't think he looks quite like an NBA guy.

Melvin has no chance at the NBA level.

Nobody.

But if anyone, Clyburn just because he has the size. You almost exclusively have to have size to get a shot.

McGee and Lucious are too short. Babb is not athletic enough or a good enough scorer. Unless Niang changes his body type drastically he won't get drafted. Ejim I just don't think he is good enough at anything to play the 3 in the NBA, and he is far too small for the 4.

We have a fantastic group of COLLEGE players though, which is really all that matters other than attracting NBA type recruits.

Lock down defenders translates well at any level, which is why Babb might have a shot. Plus, he has good size.

Agreed. Niang is not even close to being big enough to play NBA at a 4 and is way too unathletic to play a 3. Same with Ejim. As for Babb, he is a really good defender against a lot of players. But how did he do against a player who is for sure going to the NBA in McLemore? Not to mention NBA players dont play D.

Exactly. It is really, really difficult to get into the NBA. It's not the same as the NFL.

Of the seniors on the team, McGee is the one I think has the best chance of making it in the NBA because he knows his role. He could bring that instant offense and energy off the bench for a NBA team like he does for us. Won't get drafted but could make a team with stints in the D League.

I texted a buddy this during the TCU game. This is exactly what I think..

That last remark was slightly tounge in cheek. However, if you think Babb will would even get a shot you are nuts. Much better players out there that can play similar defense but are way more consistent offensively. Overseas for him if he wants a shot.

Niang has a shot if he muscles up, develops his vertical, and shows ability to guard wings since he probably translates to a combo PF/SF. McGee could sneak in as a 3 point specialist, he has the mechanics down and can guard. Size an issue there too, though. Seems like ISU is full of great talents that are just two inches short of what the NBA is looking for.

Babb fits the size requirement and could be a defensive specialist, but McLemore did burn him pretty well...
