Gotcha. I was just wondering how he meant " a mere shadow of its former self." Didn't know if it was in a good or bad way. Overall i like how Ames is. I do agree that there should be some improvements and a lot of good ones have been brought up in this thread. On the other hand i like how Ames has a cozy college feeling. Something that is definately missing in Iowa City. Please done not even get me started on Iowa City and my dislike for it is not just because I'm a Cyclone fan.
I meant now that it's at least a little better. Of course I don't go there near as much obviously.
But when I was in school - that area along welch was little more than houses and smaller businesses/bars. The apt complexes are fairly new. Some of the restaurants are newer. How campustown can't have a McD's is still a mystery. :skeptical:
But it's hard to guage actaully - those businesses turn over so often, it probably is just a case of what you prefer. So it's probably a shadow of it's former self every 3 or 4 years.
