What needs changing in Ames first?

hah hah about once a year I've found myself in the mall and in the mood to stop in the GAP... usually find a shirt I like and thats about the extent of my clothes shopping for the year... (occasionally I'll get a pair of jeans from Khols when I'm home in CR)
I haven't been this year, but I picked up a few shirts in Spain so I think that counts for this year :yes:
Do we? . . . Oh yeah we do. I just remember driving by the mall on my way to Wal-mart and seeing JC Penny, though now that I stop and think about it I guess there was a Younkers on the otherside
Shows how much I actually go to the mall...
Either way I think we could stand to improve bus transportation to shopping areas other than the mall
Gotcha. I was just wondering how he meant " a mere shadow of its former self." Didn't know if it was in a good or bad way. Overall i like how Ames is. I do agree that there should be some improvements and a lot of good ones have been brought up in this thread. On the other hand i like how Ames has a cozy college feeling. Something that is definately missing in Iowa City. Please done not even get me started on Iowa City and my dislike for it is not just because I'm a Cyclone fan.
Kohls is awesome. Super good sales on just about everything. I pretty much get all of my clothes there now.
Oh I feel the same way. I cant stand Iowa City. It has nothing to do with the Hawks. Their ped mall is kind of nice and would be a good touch in Ames, but its just so spread out and I feel its dysfunctional.
My thoughts exactly. I do like the Ped Mall and some other small amenities, but it just seems like I cannot get a feel for anything there. To me the campus seems like a downtown with college buildings thrown about. The traffic is a lot worse there than it is in Ames. This might be due to the fact of a little bigger population. In my opinion the tailgating is lame there. I've tailgated for 3 games and each time it seemed like small groups of people hanging out in driveways or garages or in terribly run down apts like the Woodside Apartments. I like how in Ames it's everyone in one giant open field surrounding the stadium.
I meant now that it's at least a little better. Of course I don't go there near as much obviously.
But when I was in school - that area along welch was little more than houses and smaller businesses/bars. The apt complexes are fairly new. Some of the restaurants are newer. How campustown can't have a McD's is still a mystery. :skeptical:
But it's hard to guage actaully - those businesses turn over so often, it probably is just a case of what you prefer. So it's probably a shadow of it's former self every 3 or 4 years.
How's this, my freshman year - the former People's bar was actually People's Drugstore. :yes:
It's well known that ISU is the place for tailgating...ask the visiting teams when they come here.
BTW - welcome. It looks like you'll fit in nicely.
And also - it doesn't "seem" to be a downtown with college building thrown about. I most certainly IS a downtown with college buildings thrown about... :wink:
I keep telling my wife and two brothers - all u of i grads - there is no "campus" in ia city.
When did that MickeyD's close in Campustown? I could have sworn it was still open Aug '03 when I graduated. For them not to have Golden Arches in Campustown is a little bit ridiculous...
I don't know, but we stopped by before the homecoming game and it wasn't there....
Av8r and I figure we alone probably kept that franchise in the black during the early 90's
Yeah i heard alot of good things about Peoples. Alot of my older friends were really sad to see it go. Right now its getting over hauled and i guess its gonna be a restaurant/bar thing. I heard rumors that Peoples maybe relocating somewhere in Campustown, but that was just hear say and most likely wont happen.
Also anyone been to the new Angie's Kitchen? It was a great place to hit up late at night for some cheap, good breakfast food. It was crowded as hell when i went there so hopefully it sticks around.
Me too. I think a Noodles & Co would do splendid on Welch. Too bad I dont have the money to give it a shot.
why the obsession with a mcD's in campus town. I see it as a plus that it is one less crap meal to tempt you.
Oh yea, that place that was supposed to open in July, then in September, then by the end of December... Who knows when it's supposed to open now?
Here - have a carrot and leave the 'crap' meals to those of us that appreciate it...
while I agree that ISU campus is far better than Iowa's it isn't that the UofI is without features. The Iowa River in the fall is beautiful and the pentacrest is a beautiful piece of historical architecture with a decent sized grass "campus" as well. The bar scene is 10 times better than ISU which is why a lot of ISU students road trip to Iowa City...and the reason it is better is probably due to a combo of friendly business climate towards bars and 18 years of age to enter.
