Interception was a bad throw...yes it was a catchable ball, but Steele has to throw it in a better spot.

As someone else said though...if you throw it 45 times, you are bound to have one or two sail on you.

He looked like a stud. If steele continues to improve and stays above 65% for the rest of the year, this team could be very good...

I agree with everyone that thinks the Steele INT was not his fault. Could the pass been a little lower? Sure, but it was also very catchable for a tall player. It is a catch that needs to be made by a D-1 TE, period.

The only negative I would say about SJ is that he had a couple chances to step up into the pocket to avoid the rush but ran backwards trying to escape and got cuaght for a 10 yard loss. I like how he escape one time and then threw the safe pass instead of trying to force it into a tight spot.

He goes 32 of 45 (71%) for 281 with 2 TD 1 INT.

Sitting in the pocket for the most part and focusing on his progressions was an improvement. Two of the throws on the quick outs, he wasn't in stride with his receiver. The first play of the game is behind and above. Eliminate that with experience and down the road he is at (78%???). Everybody has their critics.

Interceptions off of bad throws/bad catches really dont bug me that much.

Interceptions off of horrible decisions are really scary. So far, he's cut down on those bad choices.

Interception wasn't his fault, TE tipped it up when it could have been caught. But what do I know.
People keep saying this, but with the replay they showed on TV with the viewpoint behind Steele, that ball looked pretty high. It looked like the receiver went up about as high as he could and still barely got a piece of it. I could be remembering it wrong but I think that int was on Steele.

This is correct. From the angle they showed on T.V., Ricky Howard was at his highest point and he barely got his fingers on the ball. It also appeared to be a little behind him.

Yeah from that angle is doesn't look as bad, but I think it's deceptive. If you get a chance to see the TV replay with the camera behind Steele it looks worse. Like I said the TE went up as high as he could go and still barely got his fingers on it.

I'm waiting for cyclones.tv to put it up. And it looks like nobody recorded it on tenyardtorrents either.

Ricky was at the highest point of his jump. The ball was on its way down. He got finger tips on it. It was thrown a little high. Howard wasn't going to come down with that ball.

My recording has some distortion so capturing video from it won't work otherwise I'd post a video for everyone with all 3 angles.

Only thing I saw (I think) was SJ could have been a little more accurate in leading people. He was always close, throwing catchable balls, thus the good completion %. But many times (esp in first half) they were a skoosh high or behind where receiver had to change his momentum to make the catch, which cut down on the YACs. Later in the game, he seemed to hit guys more in stride, and then things really got moving. If he hits West and Horne and Lenz in stride all the time, then man, watch out.

I didn't see him try the old "chuck and duck" that he did many times last year, throwing into coverage. All highly encouraging!

Edit: been watching the game on DVR, and he was better than I thought on gameday. Better decisions, better accuracy. Not perfect, but I am impressed. And Tulsa had all senior d-linemen and 8 seniors starting on defense - lot of grown men and experience there. Excellent performance.

I'd say overall he looked good, not great, but good. The interception was his fault, but he did throw a real nice ball to Lenz on the TD. Showed pretty good decision making on the read option most times too.

How's it his fault in football they teach you you that if you touch it you should have caught it. Ya it was a little hight but it was in his hands catchable ball!

I thought that Jantz exceeded my expectations. He did a nice job of playing "within himself" (as they say in the interviews). At times, it looked like he could run for a first down or more yards, but was under instructions to throw to the sides if possible. I like that he seemed to be running the offense according to the gameplan.

I'll give him half of the blame for the interception, but Hammerschmidt shouldn't have tipped the ball up.
