Zoey's New York much better than Tomaso's, although the Detroit is pretty good.
Also, Zoey's is quaint and has character. Tomaso's has zero character, and no ambience whatsoever
I'm eating a Chicago Zoey right now. I hadn't had one for more than a year because Tomasos is much closer for me. It is fabulous despite the inferior sausage. I really think they have Tomasos beat, at least for a Chicago combo pizza. Yummy.
It's been a long time since I have been there. Grew up near Decorah and it was great back then. Was wondering if it would show up in this thread. If it's still that good I'm going to have to make a road trip back there.
Mabe's is still awesome.
Not mentioned yet in this thead in the NE IA area is McCaffery's in Decorah. They only make thin crust wood-fire pizzas, but they're excellent as well.
Went to Sugar and Slice in Ventura for lunch yesterday. It is a new place. Great Pizza, best I have had in a while.
My favourite is the thick crust oat style pizza, because the crust is softer than the Denver style (whole wheat thick crust) which is probably the most popular.
Pizza is an incredibly subjective thing, therefore I'm going to go ahead and throw out my controversial views. Personally, I feel that Great Plains pizza is barely pizza at all. It's more of a caserole in a bread bowl. Chicago style deep dish pizza crosses the line entirely and cannot be considered pizza. Instead, it is round shaped lasagna. Both are fine if that's what you're after, but when you want pizza you don't want a caserole or a lasagna.

This is so so so false. Happy Joe's is overrated and overpriced. Godfather's Taco is incredibly underrated. The golden crust alone makes it delicious! I refuse to believe that anyone who thinks Happy Joe's taco is better has actually had both. Casey's taco is also no comparison to Godfather's.
