Uthoff available?

It's possible that Utoff told the coaches that part of the reason he was transferring would be more playing time. If that was the case, I could see them restricting ISU, Marquette, and possibly other local BCS level schools as a way of forcing him to stay to his word and not transfer to another "big school".

Then why not restrict DePaul and Notre Dame, which are probably as close or closer to Madison as Ames is, or dozens of other BCS level schools? I think you are giving Bo too much of the benefit of the doubt. I think that Bo is trying to punish Uthoff for transferring because that is not in his plans (or trying to talk him out of transferring all together), so he tries to block the BCS school in his home state with two scholarships open and a history of accepting transfers as a potential (and likely) landing spot.

Im astonished that in a society that cant wait to sue someone.....that nobody has taken a coach, school, NCAA to court over one school being able to tell a player what schools he cannot go to once he leaves a program.

I'd assume the Coach is afforded a ton of power in a NLI. Just my guess, they voluntarily sign the thing.

Probably a matter of contractual law. I believe a NLI is more or less a contract to play for the school in exchange for free school. I don't think there is anything saying he cant go to Iowa State, he just cant compete in basketball there.

No no...i agree. Its like signing a contract...but jeez....like some snake lawyer cant dance around some of these things.

What then prevents a coach from saying....."Ill only let you go to IUPUI...and thats it". If they can tell you where you cant go.....what prevents them from saying where you can go?

Phil Martelli wouldnt let that kid play all year bc he wanted to transfer.

Don’t know if JU has the size and skill to be an effective Big 12 player. He is undersized at the four and doesn’t have the athletic ability of a three. I could be wrong, but I think the Missouri Valley would do him good.

Hey, watch what you say about "snake lawers." I resemble that remark.

Here's a link to NLI info:

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/CNBC/Se...tory_Inserts/graphics/__PDF/NLI_2010_2011.pdf

Not having read any NLI agreements, I can only assume that they contain provisions allowing the limitations re: to which schools you can transfer.

But its the player that is breaking the contract, not the school. The school is under no obligation to let him out at all.

Is it possible that Bo doesn't want him to transfer to a B1G school including Marquette. Maybe the AD added ISU to their love for ISU. If ISU were not so Transfer friendly maybe ISU is not mentioned.

So Bo-you don't want to compete against Fred?

Can't say I blame you but I thought you were more stand-up than keeping a kid from returning to his home state.

Hate to say it, but Bo Ryan suspecting ISU of tampering is the most logical explanation here.

Tampering is a term that gets pretty hazy.
Perpective is affected by who's the tamperer and who's the tamperee.

.... most logical to a Hock fan.

MWitt is right. There's a difference between the inference that Bo Ryan must suspect it, and the inference that it's true. There's some possibility that Bo suspects it. I don't think anyone believes that it could be true.

I believe it could be true. And I don't feel bad about it. It happens, and I'm pretty sure it's happened to us.
