Joe Paterno led his life with absolute decency. To read the comments on this board makes me sick. He led his life with the goal of aspiring for more than just athletic success. He led it to change the way we thought about life. His goal was always about the academics of student-athlete first. When you live a life of morality and honor, you should be rewarded in the end, not dragged through the mud and thrown to wolves without due process. When you have 85 years of integrity and respect, shouldn't you have the benefit of doubt?

I can only hope I can be half the man JoePa was.

When my son gets older I'm going to use joe pa as an example of someone who was a coward rather than a man.

Yes he knew of the allegations. However, it is a jump in logic to say he knew what took place. He knew law enforcement and eventually a grand jury were investigating. We can all agree that it took too long to go from allegations to indictment. But we don't know if Paterno had anything to do with the delay. Anyway, I guess my point is knowing someone is accused of something and knowing that they did something are two very different things.

Again, I'm not saying that Paterno isn't to blame for the situation, only that we don't know.

What most people are asking for retrospectively is that when Paterno found out about accusations, he assume they are true, and not only remove someone from their job, but also limit what they are able to do in their life to the fullest extent he could. Retrospectively this is what he should have done in order to mitigate the horrible damage that was done, but that's a nearly impossible standard.

The real question is what did Paterno know and when did he know it. And we probably won't ever find out, for better or worse.

Joe Pa is dying after living a long life that most of us would give anything to have. And to protect this lifestyle he enabled and looked the other way while one of his great friends and partners used his facilities to do acts that guarantee some boys will never get a chance to live a normal life.

I didn't realize enabling child rape and looking the other way to protect yourself is a life of morality and honor.

I think most decent men are already 10 time the man Joe Pa was. Hope you set your sights higher than 1/2 of Joe Pa, that's no much of a man.

I for one, will not be honoring Joe Pa in any way. Some have said that you still have to admire him as a football coach... and I say no you don't.

Football is meaningless. It's a flippin' game. I does NOT matter.

But what he allowed to happen in his own locker room to young boys DOES matter... and it's disgusting.

Joe Pa ended up being a worthless scumbag that put football and winning above young boys lives. That's what I'll remember him for. Winning a football game is NOTHING.

It's unbelievable that JoePa didn't know, considering how powerful he was. Would you believe someone who kicked the president and the AD out of his house when they asked him to retire only "relayed" the issue to the "chain of command" ?
If we have more leaders like him, we're doomed. Worse: if we have more people hoping to be like him or (HALF of him), we're definitely going to hell.

As a father, I feel my biggest priority is to protect and guide my children. They come first. I would be destroyed if this happened to a child of mine, and most likely in jail myself. My feelings are, no matter how big a ****bag the parent is, the kid deserves a chance to lead a normal life. Having the things done to them thatwere done in "joes house" is abhorrent.

Yes, you can live 70 years of noble, admirable life and go down as despicable if the last few years were disgusting. To me, what happened to these children is the worst possible crime of all. Joe looked the other way, I don't care if he was a friend, a real friend doesn't do this stuff.

Joe Pa did not enable child tape. he was told by an assistant(who has changed his story several time)that he thinks he saw something. he told the higher ups(by law thays what he had to do) and they didn't do any thing. Uhhhh, no he's not.

I don't care how many football games he won, or how many millions he gave to Penn State.... boys were raped in his locker room and he could have done something to prevent more from happening and he didn't.
