Note: I went ahead and moved this to the Football forum as requested by a couple posters. I will keep the frontpage for trying to motivate the fans and players rather than for more controversial topics such as this.

I don’t think many view your opinions as evil or malicious. I do think however, the timing is quite off.

We have no idea just how far this Cyclone team will go this fall. We could finish anywhere from 10-2 and 3-9. Not a soul knows and from what we’ve seen, neither is outside the realm of possibility.

If we’re on the lower end of that record, I doubt many, including myself, will dispute change being made. But just what if we’re near the top end of that record?

Won’t you feel a bit silly for shooting at the coaching staff from your hip?

To those that question if donors want Mac gone, all I have to say is wait until the season is over and see how many increase their donation amount, or rather how many don't. The new AD has raised the bar and will be raising costs and requirements as well, that is fine by the donors I talked to but they won't go along with it if Mac is here.

Look, I have no reason to say things that aren't true, do you think I want to say things about donors and players that aren't true? I don't think anybody would be stupid enough to post false info like that on a site they own.

Like I said, it may not be popular to call out the coaching staff and ask that they be held accountable for their job, but it's also no going to get done until somebody steps up and stops being affraid to hold them accountable.

All I am trying to say is I used to work, still work with, and am related to alot of doners, and not a SINGLE one of them would stop donating if Mac was here next year, and I would acctualy be willing to say that most of them might stop donating if Mac was fired. these cries for Mac's job are not nessecary when we have barley even started the quest to our goal. There is no way that anyone can say this goal is not out of reach because of what happened last night. We cam out flat, fixed our mistakes, and minus the two fumbles in the second half, played some of the best football we have all year in the second half of the game. Please, lets stop the negative talk, it only causing a distraction. Lets stand behind or team and our coaches and help get them fired up so we can get the Big 12 North! People like you stating that Mac should be fired is not going to pump up the fans, and will in turn not have our team as fired up. Its way to soon to be calling for Macs head. If we end up going no where this year I will be with you in saying we need to make changes. But until that goal of the Big 12 North is not met, I do not see why we need to be talking about this subject!

Keep Mac, and get rid of Cotton. The two biggest problems with the offense are the pass protection and the play calling, and both of those are directly Cotton's responsibility. The main thing that I blame Mac for is hiring Cotton.

Maybe also Skladany, since the entire premise of our pass defense seems to be flawed. It finally showed promise in the second half against northern Iowa, in the 10th half of the year. We shouldn't be sub-100th in every passing defense category at a Big 12 school, even in a down year.

To reiterate, let's keep Mac and get rid of his two lieutenants instead!

First Colorado has worse facilities than ISU and when Hawkins arrived they started getting donations. They have stopped so update your information. People are not real happy out here.
Missouri is very similar to ISU in results that last decade or more. The only difference is they have twice the money and less conference championships.
aTm and ISU are not even close to comparable. not by tradition, not by championships, not by recruiting grounds, not by $$$$$ in the program. No where close. So don't even copmpare them. It is laughable.
We will see where Kansas State ends up. YTBD

Second, as Chuck and ISU fans say below. Wait till the end of the season before calling for someones head. I saw things last night that I guess you didn't. I saw a three man front and some blitzing. Gasp. A defensive change. Gosh, maybe the staff has a clue and is trying to change schemes mid season. Maybe they tried fixing the previous scheme and saw that it just won't work. I saw us throw the ball around like mad in the second half. I saw this against Texas. Was it a bad gameplan to think we could shove the ball down UNI's throat? After all we are ISU and they are a D1-AA program. We have a HUGE OL and they were horrible up front. We have a good OL that should be able to run it on anyone. I saw three well coached players that usually don't make mistakes screw up and give UNI 10 points and take a minumum of 7 of the board. That is a minimum 17 point swing and could have been a 31 point swing if we score touchdowns instead of giveaways. If we win by 18 points or 32 points people would be happy.

Third if those people calling for Mac's head want to quit donating until Mac is gone they better $$$$$$ up to buy out the contract and then $$$$$$$ up to get a replacement, and then $$$$$$$$ up for the renovations. So in other words they have three things to take care of instead of 1. Can the renovations happen with a coaching change? Are you kidding me? nISU fans are so damn tight and conservative, they complain when there parking is moved or their ticket prices go up to the level of the 11th lowest in the Big 12. what will they do when the don't know about a new coach.

Fourth, I do not know what to believe anymore on this site. You say many want Mac gone, other's say they know big donors that support Mac. What should I believe. Hopefully you have your sources right this time. I will hold you to the fact that Mac will be gone after this season. After all your topic says "McCarney still coaching, but not for long…"

Was Skladany a bad DC last year. He had ISU in the top 15 in turnover margin, points allowed, rushing, and total defense. Could it be the players this year aren't as good? Could it be we see a three man front a little more like we did Saturday? Could it be we are in the middle of a defensive change?

Boy I agree with this post, Dan is a terrific coach. It's those darn players again (a shout out to ISU you have been right all along), and we would never win a game if we didn't have Dan.
If it isn't the players, it's because we have no money AT ALL. My God JTS is crumbling at its foundation, and we have nothing to get the players out if the elements when they practice (a shout out to the other apologists like I am becoming).
So GOD DAMMIT, you guys who want to fire Dan need to just shut the hell up, and keep supporting your team.
I mean UNI has 10 times the facilities, and budget that we do, so for us to show so much heart against an obviously superior foe, well that's just Dan being Dan.

Yeah, saying Skladany needs to be fired is completly stupid, and shows alot of ignorance to our program. But I will agree when you say that Cotton position might need to be evaluated. this is my 5th year at Iowa State, and I can remeber in 2002 starting the season by completly demolisihing Kansas, Tenn. Tech and Troy State (now just Troy). In 2003, when we only won 2 games, we still blew out Ohio. 2004 is when Cotton took over, and we have not had a big win against a low rated team since. Cotton needs to step up big time and get a little more aggresive, otherwise I hope Mac evalutes his job big time at the end of the year!

Not the right time to call for anyone's head. Wait for the end of the season.

For those of you who are complaining about our offense, while they haven't been up to par, a big reason for us not scoring the amount of points we thought we could is because our defense spends an awful lot of time on the field. Did we get a 3 and out last night? If we don't call timeouts at the end of the half, UNI gets through the entire half without punting once.

Skladany has been frustrating me this year, but whoever said that we swithced it upa little with some blitzes and different fronts is correct. It just seems that in every game this year, when it's 3rd and 4, we give up 5, when it's 3rd and 7, we give up 8. Sanders completed 73% of his passes last night. This just shouldn't happen.

The biggest missing piece from our defense is a pass rush. We allow QBs to sit in the pocket forever, and that's a really bad combination with the soft coverages we play (that did work last year, by the way). We really miss Berryman.

:sorry8bj: Mac will never get us to the next level. Ain't gonna happen. I am very, very appreciative for what he has done. But if the expectation is that I am going to be dropping $ 2500 a year ... I sure as hell expect that we aren't 4 plays from being 0-5 and going to the last play against a team that was beaten by a division 2 foe.

I will be at the jack screaming my head off for the rest of the season -- but deep in my heart I KNOW -- we won't win the big one under Coach Mac. I wish that was different -- I really do as Mac as done a great job of getting us to competitive -- but if we are to take the next step -- we need someone who can take us there.

I don't really give a rip about what a big time donor is going to do. All I know is that I have been asked to increase my donation and that I will probably be reassigned new seats due to the proposed renovations. The offense has be inconsistent at best. Whether this is a coaching or player issue is a moot point. The overall package is unacceptable right now. Now that being said can this ship be righted? Most definitely. One of the things I was happy about was the change in defensive calling in the second half. Our young defense started blitzing in the second half and we finally put pressure on the UNI QB. In the first half the QB had all day to pass and we were consistently allowing them to run off tackle. I am not a fan of the bend don't break mentality of our defensive coordinator. Nor am I a fan of watching our frontline not create holes for our running back. There is no excuse for not making a fourth and one against a I-AA team regardless of their talent level. To Barney's credit he finally adjusted his play calling to what he was given. For whatever reason we could not run against UNI they only had four or five guys in the box. This is also unacceptible. We are 3-2 I was hoping for 4-1 but 3-2 was were I thought we would be at this point. What I didn't plan on seeing was close games against Toledo, UNLV and UNI. This has me frustrated. Do I want someones head now? No. I have stated in a previous post that anything less than a B12 North division would mean that my support for Mac would end. Until then he has my full support. Winning ugly against a quality opponent will always be acceptable winning ugly against an inferior team is not.
