Actually that's pretty much how it always is with the exception of last year.

Does anyone else find it a little ridiculous that out of 300 players, the state of Iowa only had 2 representatives? And that the highest ranked one was somewhere in the neighborhood of 184 or 185? That, my friends, is insanity at its peak.

Iowa has 0.97% of the US population, so the expected number is 300 x 0.0097 = 2.9 players. So, 2 is somewhat low, but 3 would be a little high

By my count, Louisiana has 7 on the list and it is generally considered a "down" year here from the standpoint of talent...I only point this out because the population of Louisiana is very similar to the population of Iowa in terms of head count.

Lousinana has consistantly been a prime recruiting ground for quite some time. They are not as widely publicized as Texas or Florida, but alot of big name schools go down there and get some star players every year.

Back to original topic, 2 guys in the top 300 is more than I would expect for our state. When you think of states like Florida, Texas, Ohio, California, Louisiana and New Jersey I think you could compile the list just with those kids.

Iowa has no worse talent than other states (with a few exceptions), we just don't have the population like a Texas, Florida, Cal. Iceclone's calcs are right on.

According to the US Census, Iowa is projected to have 711,056 people under the age of 18 in 2010 and Lousiana is projected to have 1,171,502.

I love how scout can "rank" 300 players... from different states playing different positions on the field. I mean, is #197 that much better than #254??

I am sure they use a very scientific model to get their rankings. I wish I had a job where I just watched players and decided how good they are and if I was wrong no biggy.

Its kinda like an NFL draft. Most everyone in the 1st round(5*) are teh best players. But some times 2nd Rd(4*) turn out to be just as good or better. Same with 3* recruits. Every once in a while a 1* will come out and turn into an all american, ala Tom Brady 7th round pick.

A lot of times it comes down to exposure. The recruiting services go to where the players are.

......and the recruiting services only survive if they sell subscriptions. Iowa = low population = less potentional sub sales, so why even scout low population states. Wouldn't you want to read about your own?

I just think that 2 out of 300 is ridiculous. If you look at the top 100 for '09, Iowa has 1 already, which is more than the state has in the top 175 this year. Is this year's class from the state of Iowa really that bad comparitively?
