Our guys play really hard and with tons of confidence. You can tell they don't have to look over their shoulder anymore. I'm impressed that given this freedom to create and shoot, they really aren't making bad decisions either. Only two turnovers. You have to be encouraged with their play, but I refuse to raise my expectations until we play someone worth a crap.

We're passing each checkpoint right now.

Both NAU and Drake are solid teams. Not as good as the Big 12, but they are good non-conference foes. Although I do agree we'll really be tested once conference season starts.

I was talking with another fan before the season and mentioned that I thought Diante Garrett would show us whether the problem was McDermott or not.

After three games he looks like a totally different player. Outside shot, finishing on the drive, turn around jumper, minimal turnovers and fantastic defense. Not against the best competition but still if this keeps up I think McDermott's system did Diante a huge dis-service.

It did everyone a dis service. Think about it. I am going to bet that at least 70% of players that are going to start for a big conference team (big 12, big 10, ACC, SEC, etc) learned basketball by playing uptempo mostly.

McDermott came in and slowed things to ****. He's used to coaching guys who don't have athleticism, but have enough discipline to learn how to run some set plays.

You come in and you take someone out of their element, like at least 66.67% of our recruits, and they aren't going to play up to potential.

I won't stop being a fan or call for Fred's head, but I think we will be good enough next year.
No question we could be good enough, but A LOT of things could happen between now and then - I love the optimism around the program though. Lets just remember whipping Drake should have no impact on imediate expectations for success if recent history is any indicator

Love the physicality out of Ejim on that last play. He got a hand on the ball, creating the turnover, then boxed (almost a push) his man out on the break even though Garrett got fouled. Great to see.

15:53 to play: Iowa State 55, Drake 24

This is an *** whooping that we're watching tonight fanatics. No other way to put it. Might be the title of my column after the game...

In your opinion, are we this good? I mean Drake is not a terrible program and we have absolutely dominated every aspect of the game. Should I crank up the hype machine. I don't want to but I haven't seen an ISU team be this dominant in a long time. We also only shot 50 percent in the first half. Now that's a great percentage but typically when you are up by more than 20 in the first half it is some astronomical number. We didn't do that, we just completely dominated them.
