AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State wrestling team started off its 2010-11 home-opener with a bang in a 32-12 win over Boston University Thursday.

Cyclone Patrick Hunter made a statement in his first match in Hilton Coliseum with a pin of Bubba McGinley in 3:43 at the 125-pound weight class. Nate Carr, Jr. earned a hard-fought 4-2 149-pound victory over Nestor Taffur. An early takedown was the difference in an otherwise very even match.

So why the ISU forfeit at 141?

Edit: The register reports Druin was held out due to illness.

I felt ISU left a lot of points on the mat, with a lot of guys getting gassed later in there matches. It was a good win, and I look forward to the 21st.

Do we not have anybody else in the room that we could have tossed out there at 141?

Edit: Answered my own question. We only have one back-up at 141 and it's a freshman who is probably redshirting. And no back-ups at 133 that could have bumped up. We do have six guys at 125 though. That's a lot of little guys but not much competition in the room at 133/141.

I'm sure KJ figured we had the dual in our hands and didn't want to put a sick Drouin on the mat. Hunter looked good at 125 last night. I liked his intensity. We just need more of the guys to start going out like that. Some of them were looking a little gassed in the 3rd period.

Yes, Jackson said before the meet that he didn't want to burn a redshirt there. He also said he was a little embarrassed that we didn't have anybody to put out there at that weight. It is somewhat due to some turnover after the coaching change and won't happen again after he has been here another couple of years and gets things balanced out.
