Then where is the exotic dancer bar?

Do not go to the one down town - dear lord ... we had to give them money to stay back. :wideeyed::eek::no:

There's alway dangerous curves on Welsh, but from what I've heard I'd save your ones for sodas at work.

Oh I know. I remember the days (to date myself) of Big Earls Gold mine. Now that was a good old fashioned Juice bar. Even Dr. Gyno went in there and said WOW!

You can see more walking around campus than what you can see at Not-So-Dangerous Curves

Please tell me you've had Tip Top Chili?!?! If you haven't, it's not the best, but you go for the atmosphere. Only the diehards are there at 530-6 am before heading out tailgating an hour later.

As for me, Battles BBQ is WAAAAAAAYYYY better than Hickory Park (obviously they're different types, but still). I'm a big fan of The Cafe up in Summerset (the newer development in north ames). When i come back for games, I also have to stop by West Street Deli for some Wisconsin CHeese soup and a sandwich! Some of the best toasted creations around! I loved George's Pizza (Main St), and Wallaby's Hawkeye wings (because they're boneless=no backbone!!! :biglaugh:)

Plenty of good eats in Ames!!!

I am right there with you I can't wait to get some Battle's on Thursday and yes the Chilli at Tip Top isn't the best but when you are still kind of drunk from the night before there is nothing better at 6 in the morning.

I drove 7 hours and the only two places I want to eat in Ames was
#1 Hickory Park
#2 West St Deli
Oh and of course I had to get a giro from Giro boy or "man" as I was told by some one

I am not sure if it is still there but DeSalvo's made the best Philly Cheese Stakes I have ever had. And I really like the Bali Stay House too.

I actually work with the DiSalvo of which you speak (he's an IT tech at our company). Like Stumpy said, no more Deli, though.

I love Wallaby's, Cafe Northwest, and Dublin Bay, but nobody has mentioned the new and FANTASTIC Thai restaurant, The Spice. It's downstairs from Lucullan's, and is so freaking good that everything else kind of pales in comparison.

I think Okoboji Grill in its new location far surpasses the old one, too.

Not setting the bar too high. The old Okoboji location had horrible food.

That is true. The DSM locations seem to be much better - and the atmosphere at the old one was awful, too.

I may be also affected by the fact that I hated the former restaurant at that location - we had a name for Indigo Joe's that rhymed, but wasn't very complimentary...

Can you tell him to set up shop on football home games
I have never had a sandwich that tasted better then the ones they made.

Ah yes, Big Bubba's El Grande Steakhoue of Ames. A place to remember from the 70s.

I can't believe I went through this whole thread and didn't see 'The Cafe' in Somerset area and Aunt Maude's. There is no question that these are the two best restaurants in Ames!

The new Okoboji location is vastly improved. They have made changes to their menu in the last year. I actually love the new Spicy Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with Boji Fries. The nachos supreme is a very good appetizer. In my opinion, Okoboji now blows away Wallaby's. Although, I never really was a fan of Wallaby's. Never thought much of their menu.

Yeah but neither caters to college students. I think I have had Aunt Maudes once, and I lived in Ames until I was 24.

I'll be back for the ISU/UNI game, and I CAN'T WAIT to go to Es Tas! Can't believe nobody else has mentioned it... When it first opened a few years ago it was one of those little hole-in-the-wall places that you wondered whether or not it would survive. Everytime I visit Ames I'm glad to see Es Tas is still there, and they have a liquor license now. Mad Tacos and Boulevard Wheat in a week and a half, here I come!
