If this was JP's actual response it is not only arrogant but childish and unprofessional. It does however fit the pattern I've seen from JP and heard about JP from fans I know and respect. I just can't figure out what he's arrogant about.

I'd be willing to bet $100 Pollard didn't write this letter.

I'm going to agree.

Font for the body of the email does not match that of the greeting line or the header. I've used damn near every email program out there and font matches top to bottom on all of them. Actually the font of the body matches the font used in the blog's exactly.

Just for the record - I'm a sports talk show host. Not a journalist for Iowa State. I do write stories on my website but I don't wear a "journalist" hat in Des Moines.

You might say I have responsibility but I didn't put this up...I simply put this up here. I trust Jon and Steve that they have reason to believe this email to be real and fact checked - they are not idiots. Jon even has explained what happened in this thread.

And Jon said they gave him an everyday invitation to be on the show. That is not giving him an opportunity to verify authenticity or respond to the email.

If what you guys do is not journalism, how do you classify it? Sports talk show hosts should consider themselves a form of journalist. Perhaps thinking you are not is part of the problem. As someone who is regularly on the radio you certainly open yourselves up to slander (or in this case libel) charges. I would hope that you would fact check and give opportunity for responses when you "report news".

so you guys don't care that you have to be donor in order to be a die-hard fan in the eyes of your AD?

Just curious cause I was shocked at that reaction by your AD (no, not because of our history)

It is the way things work. Why was LE really fired? Maybe because he wouldnt talk with the big donars at events. Why was Morgan fired? Maybe because he had a hard to relationg to the donars. To the big donars Mac is the perfect fit for ISU. IMO JP has backing of the fans that fund the atheltic dept. You have to make the people that fund your dept happy, even if you upset the common fan. That is just the way business works. IMO if you are truly an ISU fan and want to see winning programs you should give a little. You should add some money to the pot so it can be eaiser to get things so teams can win.

Any lawyers in the crowd want to chime in on whether this email exchange, if it is NOT legit, could be grounds for a defamation of character, fraud, or some other kind of lawsuit? May be a stretch, but something like this, even if untrue, could hurt JP's reputation.

If he really did receive over 100 messages and only one of them was negative, I think it's driven more by apathy than lack of negative feelings. People aren't going to waste their time writing negative letters unless they care, people have begun to not care.

This is not always true. what if you can afford a $500 donation, and so can each of your 4 freinds. that equals $2500 bucks and you can buy 10 season tickets under the $2500 donation. on the other hand you can all donate $500 separately and still equal $2500. Does it really matter?? Not saying that this is the case but you are ASSumming that this is the case with no evidence.

Yes, you get better seats.

I agree with this - LOTS of apathy out there. Outside of this board, not anywhere near the conversation about the Big 12 tourney like there used to be.

Nothing I hate more than an armchair quarterback. Im glad Jamie put this guy in his place. People always think change is the best solution. We have no idea whats going on inside the program...Not a clue.. We shouldnt act like we do. Congrats to Mr. Pollard, I loved it.

So I'm still stuck on this "die hard" fan thing. How much do I have to spend? I paid for five years of school and had season tickets for football and wrestling back before we had a good team to watch in basketball. I became a lifetime alumni member. I helped my daughter pay for her four years at ISU and bought a ticket or two(I have no proof though). We are getting ready to move back to Ames and wonder if I should get a membership at a golf course and a gym or get season tickets to football and wrestling again. Then I can complain?

Pyrocyz- I don't expect JP to do anything but what he is now doing regarding the coaching situation since I'm sure there is no way we can afford a buyout now. But I also expect a good ad to not tie his own hands with this kind of contract so we get stuck in a situation like this.

I love the people out there that think that can ***** and moan about someone but get offended when someone comes back at them.

Deace should know this more than anyone....it happens in politics and it happens in sports. We are so used to the PC "don't offend anyone" mentality that when someone actually comes back on you for the crap you said...we are shocked.

A similar example of this is someone complaining about a politician and when asked "Did you vote?", they say no.

Why?

I would assume they did verify it or attempt to verify it. If not, it is a problem. Will anything happen even if it is fake? No, absolutely not.

I have zero problem owning up to stuff that I step in to. No problem at all. And I also don't have any problem explaining things like this.

I was not comfortable with this going on our page. Matt will verify that, as we exchanged a long IM last night. Steve will verify this, as I emailed him about it last night, and I spoke with him about it again this morning. After we chatted about it, I at least got to the point of being ambivalent about it being posted, and said it's his call, and he felt like it should go up.

As for contacting Jamie, we contacted him on Tuesday and gave him an every day invitation to come onto the show this week. He chose to decline, which is totally fine.

Obviously, I am not privy to motives or things considered prior to posting the e-mail, however my perception is that it was either not well thought out or was very calculated.
It seems as though the position from KXNO staff is...We will be posting an e-mail from Jamie Pollard that could portray him in a negative light to some fans. We suspect that this e-mail may be falsified, however if he agrees to do an interview on our show, he can confirm it is falsified.
On the surface, this appears very underhanded and looks to be a manipulative effort to get an interview.
If I am wrong in my assessment, I apologize in advance and am open to KXNO staff helping me understand what I have misinterpreted.

Outside of this board? There is hardly any discussion ON this board.

kingcy- I agree with you to a point on the big donors. But it's average fans that either fill up or don't fill the stadiums. They are every bit as important as the big donors as a group, maybe even more important. When apathy after losing seasons sets in with average fans, the program is in deep trouble no matter what the big donors want.
