When asked why did Iowa State play a tough opponent in Toledo, he responded by saying that ISU was in alurch when Army paid a fine and bought out their contract to play in Ames. The only choices for us were Toledo, Florida State, and Georgia. Gracefully, he picked Toledo.

I would think the latter two choices would have meant away games next year. It was a NO BRAINER. We wanted those Rockets and we blasted them. Nebraskas of the world had gobbled up Louisiana Techs of the world (or should I say Iowas of the world had feasted on Montanas - just lucky they did not play Montana State in Iowa City) by the time Army quit on us. Word has it that Army was too involved with Iraq to come to Ames.

That Army has nothing to do with the Army in Iraq. The Army in Iraq are active fighters. The Army we played are active student who will be in the Army when they graduate.

I think that later two would have meant away games THIS year and no game next year. Neither Georgia or Florida State would come to Ames.

I would have loved to go watch ISU at Georgia, that stadium is pretty sweet.

Why is Ames not a place someone would want to go? I have been away from it for 7 years now and miss the hell out of it. Are they worried about getting beat here?

Army, why did you bump Iowa State for @Arkansas State? You lost to A** State already. We would have been proud to have Army tanks rolling to JTS instead of Toledo Rockets. Never did see the mythical rocket. Just fireworks.

Congratulations on missing the joke.

In hindsight, I'm glad we played Toledo. It gives us a win against a solid opponent who showed our weaknesses more than Army would have. Of course if we lost I would be ******** about Army right now.

Compared to Georgia and FSU, Jack Trice is small, is far away and is not in a major market. For big teams like that who can pretty much pick and choose who they play, they'd much rather pay a team to come to them than travel all the way up here.

I think that's more about money. You make money at home and lose money away.

Well, sort-a anyway.

Georgia is playing at CU in Boulder next year. Folsom holds roughly what JTS holds when counting hillside tickets. Granted the Denver and ATL markets are bigger, but ISU could always play UGA in Arrowhead. K-State got USC to visit a few years ago, and KSU stadium holds 50k. Now don't tell me Manhattan is that much more appealing than Ames.
