Rick Springfield at the Five Seasons Center (now US Cellular Center) in Cedar Rapids. First row balcony with my dad and my sister. I think I was maybe 7 years old?

Boys II Men

What ya'll know bout dat?

Very jealous. I wanted to see them real bad. I am still a huge fan of theirs. My dad took me to see Godsmack in 8th grade I think. I caught a guitar pick which made my night...wait no, the topless girls fighting on guys shoulders and ending in a makeout session made my night. The first concert I went to without a parent accompanying me was TOOL in Madison when I was a Sophomore in high school. First time I ever crowd surfed, it was an unbelievable feeling.

Saw Chicago at Hilton fall of '86 with my girlfriend. Promptly broke up with me that same night. She knew it was coming too, but didn't want to miss the concert.

7 Seas of Rhye
QUEEN at Hilton in 1980 for their "North American Bites the Dust Tour"

What a great night - especially when lead singer Freddie Mercury said "Hello Ames, Iowa...Home of the CYCLONES" and everyone in the place went nuts!

Oh yeah, and the opening was incredible which included lots of lights, smoke, and thunder (piped in through the speakers) as the band entered the areana to 'Jailhouse Rock' before launching into a blistering set.

Seen Kiss at Vets in October 1979, will never forget the drive up I-35 from the south. Pope John Paul II's helicopter convoy flew right over us. It was kind of freaky considering what they used to say KISS stood for..

Ratt/cheap Trick at the Five Seasons Center
I remember that one. Cheap Trick was actually the opening act, if you can believe that. Someone phoned in a bomb threat and everyone had to go through metal detectors to get in. Most people missed all or part of Cheap Trick's set and there were a lot of pi$$ed off people.

Romantics in Arnolds Park.
HaHa i was working summers full-time at the Kum N Go when they were there, the band came in after the show to buy beer and cigs, smelliest/greasiest sumguns I'd ever seen to that point.
my first concert was either: Stevie Nicks at Hilton she comes out and slurs "Welcome to Des Moines!!"
or Journey in Iowa City with an opening guy Bryan Adams-never heard of him but he kicked A@@
although, the more I think about it, I remember seeing REO Speedwagon at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park when I was like 14

I don't know if this would be called a concert by today's standards, but when I grew up, Lawrence Welk (before his days on TV) had a show that travelled around and did barn dances. I suppose that would be it for myself, but again, not sure if that is what the OP was looking for.
