There's snow and ice?

Wow -what a difference 30 miles can make. It's just cold here.

Wow, I remember back in 89 we had a bad ice storm in Ames, cancelled everything...but we still rode CyRide to the mall! It must be bad.

Interesting. I'm a CyRide driver and we've driven through some pretty heavy snowstorms and icestorms, and still not had to shut down. I know there's been enough snow to cover the ground this evening and my roommate said it was slick outside, but it's interesting that it has been enough to shut down service...

Question - I was planning on driving from Des Moines to Ames here in about an hour...are the roads bad enough to keep me from making the trip?

I'm assuming 35 and 30 are fine as the DOT was out on my way home today, but inside the City of Ames, as usual, is horrible right now. I think you will be fine until you get off the highway, than take it easy...

DOT says everything is OK on 30 and 35...Iowa DOT Travel Information Service

However, those were last updated at 5 PM, and Ames got the majority of the snow between 5 and 5:30.

I don't think that they are joking. Try calling your girlfriend to confirm the conditions.

I am going to South Duff apartments...that's where my girl lives. Are you guys joking or should I really stay put?

I live out of state but have heard from family members that they have seen numerous accidents this evening. It's never worth risking but I'll let someone local give you a better update on the conditions.
