Ok, great news, got the media center correctly linked up. Even though I put all my files in a public folder used for sharing, the folder wasn't setup for public sharing...go figure.

Just using the PS3 as a media hub brings a whole other value to the console. I also used Netfilx about 5 years ago for $20, but never was able to watch enough to get my value out of it, but for $8 over the PS3 - that could very well be worth it.

Didn't I hear that the selection of the Netflix through the PS3 is kind of limited though???

The next thing I would like to see is the PS3 or some other WiFi enabled Blu-Ray player with a hard drive be able to record as well. I know my CPU can if I was able to get the connection for it to receive a signal, but why not just have the PS3 record what your TV is receiving.

I have a strong feeling in the next couple of years, this catalog will be huge and include more recent titles. Netflix has been a pretty intelligent company so far. First to try things but does it in a manner that if they make a mistake it doesnt bury them. Its a slow process but they will do it right.

I have had problems streaming Netflix on my PS3. Anyone else have issues? Of course, I only have Qwest DSL at 1.5 mbps, so that might be the problem. It averages around 1 mbps usually. I love the PS3 though - it's my vote for best Blu Ray player.

My concern as well, interested to see how other DSL users are doing with Netflix streaming.

I have 5.0 mphs I plan on doing the free trial this weekend if not tonight. I can let you know.

I can say in regards to video over the net (Youtube, Hulu, etc.) The HD videos cause me fits, but all others play seamlessly without interruption preceded with a short buffer time.

I have a Panasonic BD-35 (older model) and it works great. I did a lot of reading reviews online and this one was the best. I have been very impressed with this one. They have newer models out now that I am sure are better. The nice part about Blu-Ray vs upconverted dvds is that Blu-Ray has uncompressed sound. If you have a home theater, the sound is WAY better on Blu-Ray.

Wish we had 5.0 mphs available in our area, odd that we don't since it's new development.

I would be curious to know how it works for you. I don't know if the problem is on Qwest's end or if it's Netflix.

That is odd...heck I know I can even go higher if I wanted but don't care to pay the extreme bill for ultra speed internet.

So here's a question for anyone-what's our other option besides Mediacom and Qwest?

None unless you want dial up. The directv internet is slow and $$$ compared to both the other options.

What are the audio out options on the PS3? I've got an older Onkyo receiver that does DTS, but not the DTS-HD or MasterAudio stuff. The receiver has optical digital audio inputs and analog audio (multi-channel) inputs if the PS3 has on-board decoding and analog outs. It can handle the bitstream from my current DVD player through the optical digital in.

The PS3 has optical audio output (as well as HDMI, obviously) along with your standard RCA outputs.

I've got a 5Meg line from Qwest and I don't have any problems playing the HD streams.

Sometimes if I'm fast forwarding (which is not a very user friendly interface) it takes a while for the stream to catch up (like 10-15 seconds which I would never complain about) but as far as playing goes I have yet to have any problems.

This is a tricky one. The PS3 has both Linear PCM and Bitstream. So you can use Linear PCM for the good stuff but that is only if you're using HDMI, which I assume your old receiver doesn't have.

If you have to use optical out you're only going to get the standard multi-channel stuff The limitation is with your old receiver. If you're using optical out you should use the bitstream setting or you'll only get 2.0. At least I think this is correct.

BTW-I've seen some great deals over the last couple of weeks on A/V receivers.

Could be the connection?

Tom - how is your Blu Ray player connected to your TV? If not via HDMI cable, that's likely your issue. Also, what is the model number on your Sony TV?

I have the Sony N460 connected via HDMI to my Sony 46W4100. I will look at my settings again, maybe I missed something in the setup if it's that obvious in picture quality difference.
