This guy does a little spot on a local radio station. From his 10/19 broadcast:
On The Road With Mike Evans
News of Leno's demise may be somewhat exaggerated...
The 9:00 time slot has nothing that interests me, and it's one of the few times where I'm always in front of the tv, so Leno is on if the wife is up, and it's better than the alternatives.
Never have liked Leno much. I have always been a Letterman, Conan, and Kilborn guy.
I find it interesting that people still watch shows at certain times*, or exclusively on TV--that is all changing. The next generation doesn't tune in to TV for entertainment, they get on the internet.
*w/ the exception of live events (football, etc.)
with conan and dave, I think you either get their humor and love them or you don't really get it or don't like it and can't stand them.
His bit was much better at 10:30. Its Leno lite now. Conan is much better at this point.
Dunno if they'll can his show though, his show costs next to nothing compared to other shows theyve aired in that timeslot, so they can get lower ratings (and less ad dollars) and still come away with the same profits. Also, i think another reason they brought him in was that someone like ABC was looking at taking him away to their own 10:30 slot, and they dont want to be on the other side of that.
I've read this, too - as long as he can sell a few ads, they still make profits - especially when you consider that it would cost a lot more to produce a comedy or drama to fill that time spot.
I miss Kilborn, too. I'd say my hierarchy of late night hosts goes (Letterman and Ferguson can be interchanged on occasion):
Kilborn > Conan > Letterman > Ferguson >>>>>>>> Leno > Dana Carvey
Where does Arsenio Hall fall into your continuum of late night TV?
Hmm. With or without the Dog Pound?
