Army / Navy game and "white power" sign

Kind of a weird story... I watched the game but never saw the "hate" symbols. Well the probe was just completed and it was kids playing a game. A game I used to play in the Air Force back in 19 and 85 called the "bag game". You make a circle with your fingers (the OK sign which is apparently now hate speech) and hold it over your head or below your waist. If someone LOOKED at it you could punch them - sometimes in the nuts - thus the "bag" game. If someone made the sign and you could break the circle, you could give the punishment. Actually brings back fond memories. Not of scrotum abuse, but the male bonding part of it.

NCAA puts TCU on probation..

after finding players were paid for work they didn't do..

https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article238566623.html

TCU reported the violations to the NCAA in June 2018, and submitted an additional report in September 2018, after it discovered that players were not clocking out when their shifts ended. The players were on the football and men’s and women’s basketball teams. Their job was to change light bulbs across the campus.

The excess payments totaled almost $20,000 over four years, the NCAA said, and resulted in 22 of the 33 athletes competing while ineligible.

Philly dog story

A pretty sweet story about a stray dog wandering into a home during a storm when the owner didn't make sure the door was latched). It makes you wonder how long this poor thing was on the street or, if not, how poorly she was treated before. It seems like she'll be treated well for the rest of her life. And I might have donated to the cause ;)

Friday OT #1 - Your Auld Lang Syne

"Old times past" or "times long past" is the translation of "Auld Lang Syne." Who do you not see anymore during the holidays who you wish you could? Do you do anything fun to carry on traditions from when you were together during the holidays?

My two grandmothers passed away (one back in 2002, the other this past spring), and it makes me so very sad not to see them each year. But we carry on certain traditions (playing certain songs while opening presents, there is a certain spaghetti dish with whiskey that one would make each year), so they are still there in a small way.

Without being too somber - who is your auld lang syne?

Office etiquette

There is a debate going on in my office about the proper way to utilize the folding tabs on a file folder. The universally accepted office practice is to fold them down and out, away from each other, as seen below:

We now have a few noobs in the unit and they started folding tabs like the below pic:

What manner of jackassery is this? Who the hell does this? Is this how millennials are taught in school to use a file folder? I fear for our future.

Who comes into the office as a new troop and immediately bucks the system like this?

Food for Thought 2: Help Out the 99/00 ISU MBB Team

Another time-time scenario. You have a time machine that can only be used once, and can only move one person through time. Pick one Iowa State player to help out the 1999-2000 ISU team that ultimately lost to Michigan State in the Elite 8.

The temptation at first might be to pick a really good ISU player, but team chemistry and also the needs of that team need to be considered. For example, you might pick Monte Morris, but that team already had a really good point guard, and Morris would likely just end up spelling Tinsley occasionally.

My pick? Kelvin Cato. Not the best player in ISU history, but he'd be a great fit for that team. Imagine Kato volleyball-swatting balls to the other end of the court for Johnson or Nurse to take for easy lay-ups.

After dropping off Kato in 1999, I'd also pass a note to Michael Nurse to always look both ways before crossing Lincoln Way.

Survivor: War of Winners

I would say this could be an epic season. I am going to guess Rob and Sandra get bored out early even though they are
Probably the best. Winners won’t want to mess around. I will guess a little bit lower profile winner will win it. parvati is also a high profile but might last a little longer. Any guesses?

Turn the lights back on in Hilton.

I know the lights are newer, but why are we going for stage lighting? I don't know why this would not be looked at further, as it is one of the biggest changes to the Hilton Coliseum atmosphere that I can remember. Now you can only see half the student section. If the fans show up why not let them be seen and heard?

Will Iowa State Make NCAA Tourney?

Will ISU make the NCAA Tourney for 19-20 Season?

  • Yes

    Votes: 69 17.2%
  • No

    Votes: 332 82.8%

I do not think ISU will make the tourney this season. ISU is 6-4, can't shoot, struggles to rebound and defend. This is not a recipe for a tourney team. (I hope I'm wrong!)

ISU wins the last two games in 2019 to get to 8-4. I believe ISU goes 3-6 at best on the road in conference and 6-3 at best at home. Best case scenario is 17 wins (unless ISU somehow beats Auburn). 17 wins will not cut it IMO.

What do you all think?

Camping World Bowl Transportation from Downtown

Free shuttle and Transportation options from downtown Orlando.

Camping World Bowl shuttle.

Also, the LYMMO downtown circular bus gets you within 1/2 mile of the stadium. Its free also. (11 minute walk from S Westmoreland Dr And W Church St LYMMO Stop)
I think its the Grapefruit route. Runs about every 15 minutes.
