Pro Football Focus All-Big 12 team

Pro Football Focus released its All-Big 12 team this morning so I figured I'd post Iowa State's selections here.

First-team: Charlie Kolar (TE), Mike Rose (LB)

Second-team: Breece Hall (RB), Deshaunte Jones (WR)

Third-team: Brock Purdy (QB), Chase Allen (TE), Josh Knipfel (OG), Kene Nwangwu (KR)

Honorable Mention: Tarique Milton (WR), Bryce Meeker (OT), Marcel Spears (LB), Anthony Johnson (Flex)

Kolar was also named an All-American by the site yesterday. The Big 12 will announce its official awards this week.

Square credit card reader for smartphone

Do any of you have experience setting one of these up for your business?

I run an annual golf tournament and think this would be a great thing for us to maximize donation dollars. But I haven't looked into what is needed to accept the payments.

Currently I use PayPal to accept credit cards on our website, is that all I need? Do the readers work very well? Do you have a better suggestion for me to be able to accept credit card payments live on the course?

TIA

How do think it will turn out in the B12?

Here's my guess and it's certainly that because so many changes have happened since last year.

1. Texas - solid QB play and depth (must beat LSU to set the stage)
2. ISU - if they stay healthy with that defense will challenge for championship game title (must beat Iowa)
3. OU - lost too much on the line of scrimmage and this guy's not Heisman quality
4. TxT - excellence at QB and other parts will be the B12 surprise
5. Bu - solid QB play for third-year coach
6. K-State - Klieman behind quality on both lines of scrimmage will show why he has 7 rings
7. TCU - getting a lot of preseason blow for starting K-State's second-team QB
8. oSu - still don't know who's at QB
9. WVU - Dana left little
10. Ku - Les may be institutionalized before season ends

Actually, after the first three standouts, I haven't a clue how the other 7 will playout. Yours?

Re-al Mitchell Packages

One of the most disappointing parts of this season was our lack of creativity in getting one of our most dynamic playmakers on the field in Re-al Mitchell. I feel like that was a major fail on the coaching staff. I really hope they work on some packages to make that happen next year, but my fear is that he will transfer. Nights like Kansas State, he could have been a real spark plug/difference-maker. Will anything change next year? Will he still be around?

Twister Sister Summary - ho hum....who are we playing?

The title should say it all. Yesterday I watched a team that was going through its paces as if it were the day after New Year’s eve and everyone had a hangover. After coming out of the gates fast, everything went into neutral for quite a while as the team seemed discombobulated and never seem to find a groove. Exceptions to this were Ashley and Nez. I would also say that watching Rae run the point was fun. She took control and I never felt we were missing anything in that position. Maggie was way off in her shooting, but distributed the ball quite well. Here are some general observations:

Ashley Is definitely not having a sophomore slump. She is capable of contributing positively to this team in multiple ways. It seemed like she was able to turn it on at nearly any point in time and make a difference. She is the heart and soul of the team right now.

Kristen is still not herself. She struggled shooting and appeared to just be struggling in general before getting banged up in the second half and sitting out the rest of the game. We need her to heal and quickly!

I was impressed with the court awareness of Nez. She seem to put herself in the right position to receive passes and score as well as seeing other teammates. She had several beautiful assist during the game. You could tell she was having fun.

I enjoyed seeing Rae shoot from outside and make her presence known. This will be critical moving forward.

Outside of those players everyone else seem to be out of sync. I saw too many errant passes and defensive breakdowns for my taste. Except for Rae, anyone that played point was too timid when New Orleans placed full court pressure and double teams on as we advanced the ball.

The team has a rough schedule coming up with Alabama, Iowa, and northern Iowa in the next couple of weeks. While I have not been impressed with Iowa, all three of those are capable of beating our sisters if they do not bring their A game. We definitely miss Madison and Kristen. Let’s hope we get them back and that the team looks more in sync as they wrap up their nonconference schedule.

Volleyball RPI thru 11/24

ISU currently at #38. Next match is against #26 OU on Friday night in Ames. Arguably, the biggest match of the season so far in terms of NCAA tourney implications and the quest to finish 3rd behind UT and BU:

Did not watch the KSU sweep on Saturday but noticed in the box score that Anderson played the 2nd DS. That now makes 2 former OHs playing back row spots only with Schuler being the other.

Elijah Mitrou-Long

Hoping Elijah finds "his place". He has had a tough journey! Seems like a great young man.

"I’ve decided to take my talent elsewhere and finish my last year year at the collegiate level. This journey has been one that I wouldn’t change for anything and I’m ready for the next chapter in my book.”:EM-L

From the UT message board:
I'm sure Long will qualify as a graduate, even if he needs to take some summer classes. Ever hear the one about Zoran Talley cramming 27 hours into a single summer to get the grad exemption for ISU? If Long doesn't qualify as a graduate, then he's running the risk of ending his career a season too soon, and I suspect he has no intention of doing that.

Response: Talley? did he play with George Niang on some of the notable ISU teams under Fred H.?.......

Even as bottom feeders Maryland and Rutgers making bank.

I can’t even imagine what Iowa state would spend Texas budget money on.

NFL: ***Official Week Twelve Thread***

Colts @ Texans tonight in a game with big AFC playoff implications. The Colts could take a firm hold of the lead in the South or fall out of the playoff field tonight. The Texans are in the midst of a tough stretch too after getting drilled by Baltimore last week and a trip to New England coming up. A loss tonight and next week would leave them at 6-6 with an uphill battle to make the postseason. Best of the rest this weekend:

Cowboys @ Pats - New England's defense is legit but is it time to start worrying about the offense? They've really struggled to move the ball.

Packers @ Niners - Mystery game. I think SF is for real but we're about to find out; this is the first of a brutal three game stretch. After this they hit the road at Baltimore and then at New Orleans.

Ravens @ Rams - MNF showcase for Lamar Jackson and his MVP campaign.
