2025 NFL Draft

Didn’t find a thread on this yet, so figured I’d create one. Saw Kiper released his top prospects board.

He has Noel as the 10th-rated receiver and Porter as the 8th-rated CB. That would probably mean he expects 2nd or 3rd round for them.

I’m a little surprised he has Noel over Higgins. He doesn’t have any other Cyclones ranked in the top 10 at their position.

WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Thought I'd start a thread for things not ISU team so our general Cyclone season thread doesn't get sidetracked. I know there are a couple of fans that watch outside of our team.

Looking at future opponents.

The Jennie B. Sooners are 6-1 and beat #9 Oregon and Minnesota in a neutral court setting to win a tourney in the Bahamas. Play Mississippi State in the Big 12/SEC thingies on Saturday. Miss State is not ranked. Was just a few years back they were 37-2 and in the champ game against ND. Vic Schaefer leaving and his replacement resigning after just a year seems to have left them as a middling SEC team.

Iowa, after missing three games against quality opponents due to their COVID hiatus, got thumped at Duke last night. They didn't win a single quarter. Clark, a career 41% from three, was 1-13. They play Michigan State at IC on Sunday before coming to Ames. Haven't seen them play but so far they don't seem to be playing even close to their level of last year.

NCAA set to allow direct payments to athletes

April 22 - In a major move that would allow schools to start directly paying their athletes, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors proposed deleting 153 rules from its handbook as part of nine potential legislative changes at a Monday meeting.
The proposals are pending approval of the $2.8 billion House settlement reached last year of three separate antitrust cases against the NCAA and college sports' power conferences. The proposals include name image and likeness compensation and regulation, a change from scholarship limits to roster limits, eligibility standards and the creation of a legal entity to oversee enforcement of the updated athlete compensation rules in Division I.

Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

Similar to my other cinematic universe threads (Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fox X-Men Universe, DC Extended Universe), the following is a thread completely devoted to talking ALL things related to the existing and upcoming Star Wars Universe, whether it be movies, TV shows, comics, books... etc. Below is a good graphic depicting what is meant by the Star Wars Expanded Universe and what Disney now considers canon. It is important to know that once Disney bought Lucasfilms back in 2012, they decided to reset the existing canon. What I mean by that is they declared that the only thing considered canon moving forward was all the existing saga films (Episodes 1-6), as well as the existing animated TV shows (Clone Wars, Rebels). All else, including existing books, shorts stories, comics, and even the existing Ewok movies were all removed from canon. This was and has been a very controversial topic among fans.

Here is a more detailed and more accurate exact timeline on everything:

Moving forward, the following is a graphic of the current upcoming schedule (the 2018 spin-off will be a Han Solo movie):

With all this said, this is the place to post any and all things Star Wars, whether that be news, opinions, reviews, rumors... etc.

Renewing Passports online at Travel.State.Gov

Thought I'd post this as an update from the summer thread on passport applications. The "beta" system the State Department was testing is now a full feature. I filled out my renewal application online last week and just got a confirmation that it has shipped. So less than two weeks and no farting around with mailing in your passport and worrying about it getting lost.

You can only do this for renewals, not first time passports. And you can't do "expedited" although this is maybe just as fast as that , just not guaranteed as fast. If you google up "online application" you'll get all sorts of BS first from companies that want to charge you to do what the government is doing for free (well, not free as you still pay an application fee but no extra charges for something that is now really easy to do yourself). It's does require you to setup up an account but I already had one via the Smart Traveler Program.

Official Government linky:

Note, I still had my photo taken at a local photoshop and rather than printing a photo they emailed me the digital file. Since that is sort of the new option they didn't quite know what to charge me so they did some minimum $3 something! The thing about the photo store is they had a little setup with a Sony camera that had a person profile outline so the image would likely be 100% up to the passport standards. If you elect to take the photo yourself they have a very detailed photo guide in the application. If you have to pause to take the photos you can save the application and pick it up later.

What's streaming that's good TV/movies

With no sports and peeps recommended to stay at home, what are you watching or have watched that you can recommend?

I finished Altered Carbon 2 last week. Netflix. Would recommend if you have watched season 1. New story but would be way easier to understand if you've watched the previous. Good sci-fi.

Thinking of checking out the South Korean "Kingdom", also on Netflix.

2025-2025 Transfer Portal Needs, Wants, Updates

I’m over my head in who is out there and who we have a legit chance at but atleast it’s a spot to catalog the upcoming rat race…

Goes without saying we need the BAP (Best Available Player) if I can steal from NFL Draftniks at our upper weights 174-197…

Only 2 I will throw in with my limited knowledge…
197- Novak from Wyo- only reason would bc he’s from Minnesota and maybe wants to get closer to home? Did we recruit out of HS?
197-Little from Little Rock…maybe he wants to join a top 5 national club

In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

The Pokey Stix thread got me thinking about all the places I miss in Ames that have closed. What are yours?

Off the top of my head:

Gumby's: Pokey Stix and Pepperoni rolls
HomeTeam Pizza: Dirt cheap drunk food, 3 mediums for $10. Plus they had a cheesy commercial shot at Sterling.
Angies: Didn't seem to last long but that was a great after bar spot, always packed, good breakfast.
La Fuente: Margarita Challenge! Solid mexican food, although El Azteca topped it when they came to town.
The Truck Stop: Great food just a little out of the way. Cyclone Slam ftw
Battles: The original location, went downhill a bit once they moved to Welch and owner died.

Elwood Drive: Screw University Boulevard.

2025 "National Duals"

Automatic Entries (up to 12):
Top 12 teams from 2025 NCAA (Penn State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Cornell, NC State, Northern Iowa, Illinois, Virginia Tech and Michigan)
NOTE: Teams must confirm participation by April 15

Lottery Entries (to complete the 16-team field):
Random drawing from teams that finished 13th-24th at 2025 NCAA (Purdue, Missouri, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, Little Rock, Arizona State, Stanford, West Virginia, Navy, Wyoming, South Dakota State, Indiana, Maryland and Oregon State)
NOTE: Drawing will take place April 24

2025 Transfer Options

Looking like we will need to fill two guard spots with Gilbert and Jones leaving (assuming Curtis doesn't get an extra wavier for the year he played at Indian Hills). Our scholarships look to be 13 next year. Depending on the court rulings that could increase to 15 spots which is the current roster limit. We will have some room to fill with some dudes. Iowa State next year will be an attractive transfer destination. Here are some guys I am keep my eye on that fill what TJ has gone after in the past; Midwest ties, multiple years, low ego, "transfer up" type guys:

Abdi Bashir Jr. - two years to play
Terrence Brown - two years to play
Treysen Eaglestaff - one year to play
Bennett Stirtz- one years to play.. doubt he'd leave his coach as he followed him to Drake but kid can ball
Conor Enright - stats don't jump off the page but he's a pass first guy and very efficient. One year to play

Any other guys of note?
