RECRUITING: Ryan Jenkins impressed with Iowa State during official visit weekend

Iowa State edge prospect Ryan Jenkins took his official visit to Ames over the weekend along with a number of other 2024 recruits – which includes a majority of the committed members of the class.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect out of Georgia was the only defensive line prospect present for the weekend, and his visit left him feeling impressed.

“It really caught me off guard,” Jenkins said. “It’s a big place in a little town, but it’s definitely top-notch. I’ve been to Georgia and Alabama – it’s definitely up there with them.”

Iowa State began recruiting Jenkins during their in-school visits in the Southeast.

After wide receivers coach Noah Pauley saw what Jenkins had to offer, the program sent defensive line coach Eli Rasheed to talk to the recruit.

“It’s been pretty good,” Jenkins said. “They just came out of nowhere. Coach Pauley came down to see me a couple of months ago, and he liked what he saw, so they sent Coach Rasheed down.”

Jenkins has over 25 FBS offers but says Iowa State stacks up pretty well in the general stance on his options.

He plans on committing on his birthday and has a pair of other official visits set for Indiana and Boston College.

“They’re definitely up there,” Jenkins said. “I’m committing on my birthday, July 19th, and I want to take my (official visits) before committing.

Jenkins will keep his options open as the July 19 date approaches, but Ames left a mark at the very least.

“I just loved being here,” Jenkins said.
