As football season approaches, and Iowa State makes the later additions to its 2024 recruiting class, attention will shift to the 2025 group what the program could be targeting.
One area where that becomes more apparent than others is in the receiving corps currently in Ames. The Cyclones have just one wideout committed in in their 2024 class thus far.
One name to look at down the road may be St. Augustine, Florida wide receiver Carl Jenkins Jr.
The 6-foot-3, 177-pound wide receiver was offered by Iowa State back in May, by safeties coach Deon Broomfield during an in-school visit.
“We had a talk and he asked what I knew about Iowa State,” Jenkins Jr. said. “I told him that I look up to the receivers – Xavier Hutchinson that just got drafted to the Texans. I had told him all of the stuff like that.”
The Florida prospect went on four visits over the course of the summer, and was slated to be in Ames in June, but rescheduled the visit for this fall.
Jenkins Jr. visited North Carolina, Wake Forest, UCF and Florida State during the summer, and tentatively looks to be in attendance for Iowa State’s matchup with TCU on October 7.
“They offered me there and I’ve been in constant talks with coach Broomfield and the receivers coach ever since,” Jenkins Jr. said of the program.
