Cyclone commit performance of the week

ATH ABU SAMA, SOUTHEAST POLK

Southeast Polk (5-1) 49, Linn-Mar (3-3) 27

Abu Sama went over the century mark on the ground and added a receiving catch to complete his second, four-touchdown performance of the season. Sama, who’s being brought in to play defensive back for Iowa State, finished with 103 rushing yards, three touchdowns and a 41-yard reception that he took to the end zone.

QB J.J. KOHL & DB JAMISON PATTON, ANKENY

Ankeny (5-1) 34, Valley (3-3) 24

J.J. Kohl went 14-20 for 249 yards and 2 touchdown along with 70 yards on the ground and another rushing touchdown in his team’s victory over Valley on Friday. Jamison Patton went off in the meantime, collecting 144 yards including a touchdown on the receiving end.

WR KAI BLACK, URBANDALE

Ankeny Centennial (4-2) 28, Urbandale (4-2) 23

Kai Black led the Urbandale Jayhawks in receiving for the third-straight week, continuing his dominance since returning from an injury. Black finished with 119 yards on five catches, but Urbandale suffers its second loss of the season.

ATH KOOPER EBEL, HARTLEY-MELVIN-SANBORN

West Hancock (6-0) 31, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (4-2) 18

Once again putting the offense through the all-around player in Kooper Ebel, HMS was downed by its undefeated opponent to suffer its second loss of the season. Ebel threw for 104 yards on 10 completions and rushed for another 129 yards.

TE CARSON RHODES, NEVADA

Nevada (5-1) 17, Ballard (1-5) 12

Carson Rhodes, Iowa State’s first commitment in the 2023 class, did not register any stats in Nevada’s fifth win of the season.
