RECRUITING: Carson Hansen sets school record, Kooper Ebel goes off again

It’s week five of the high school football season and some trends are starting to emerge with the amount of Iowa State commits that are standing out in multiple games this season. Check out how each of them did this week in our commit tracker.

Cyclone commit performance of the week

ATH CARSON HANSEN, LAKEVILLE SOUTH (Minn.)

Lakeville South 43, Farmington 21

Carson Hansen set the school record for rushing yards in a game during Lakeville South’s win over Farmington. Hansen rushed for 322 yards and topped the standing mark by 50 yards on the ground. He collected four touchdowns on the night and continues to impress up north.

ATH KOOPER EBEL, HARTLEY-MELVIN-SANBORN

Kooper Ebel has completely taken the reigns for his high-powered HMS offense midway through the season. The two-way star again lined up at quarterback, accounting for four touchdowns on the night – two rushing and two through the air. Ebel ran for 240 yards and added 132 passing yards on a 7-13 completion rate. He also corralled 7.5 tackles on defense, kicked an extra point, and converted on a pair of two-point conversions.

QB J.J. KOHL & DB JAMISON PATTON, ANKENY

Ankeny (4-1) 35, Des Moines Roosevelt (2-3) 18

J.J. Kohl went 11-18 for 196 yards and 1 touchdown along with a rushing score at Drake Stadium in his team’s 35-18 win over Des Moines Roosevelt Friday night. Jamison Patton added four receptions for 37 yards in the game, as the Hawks improved to 4-1.

WR KAI BLACK, URBANDALE

Urbandale (4-1) 48, Des Moines East (1-4) 0

Kai Black led the Urbandale Jayhawks in receiving for the second straight week, catching six balls for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his team’s blowout win over Des Moines East.

TE CARSON RHODES, NEVADA

Nevada (4-1) 25, Gilbert (Hampton-Dumont-Cal (1-4) 22

Carson Rhodes, Iowa State’s first commitment in the 2023 class, did not register any stats in Nevada’s fourth win of the season.

ATH ABU SAMA, SOUTHEAST POLK

Southeast Polk (4-1) 56, Waterloo West (1-4) 0

Abu Sama did not have any listed stats in SE Polk’s win over Waterloo West, and did not play last week against Ankeny.
